Startup screen

I didn't want to post this in a "necro thread" (Juggernaut).

So I installed the 2014.30 map last night, per "alandb's" instructions. Then put on the other usb cable to charge overnight.
Since I got the Nuvi 2595 it would start at the Garmin Logo and start to load maps, then the irritating warning, then the "do you want to copy new stuff to the unit", some baloney like that. Now when I start it, it opens in the "Where To" screen. Is that because of cloning to the SD, or being fully charged, or where do I kick it? Seems to me if it's starting up there it's not shutting done.

Sleep Mode

Your 2595 has sleep mode, the where to screen appears becuase the unit never shut off but rather went into sleep mode.

To fully shut down the device, hold the power button down for three seconds or more.

Sleep Mode

When the 2595 is in sleep mode, it will start at the Where To screen when you press the power button to turn it back on.

Just a guess

Just a guess but it sounds like the "do you want to copy new stuff to the unit" message you were getting could be because you had POIs loaded on the card and it was asking if you wanted to copy them to the Nuvi. If that's the case then those POIs that were on the card may have got deleted during the cloning process. Does that process procedure require the SD card be reformatted? With no POIs on the card the "do you want" message wouldn't appear any longer.

startup-POI's

Never saw that "Shut Off" prompt before. Read about "Sleep Mode", but now I get it. I'll bet you guys like these easy ones. LOL

I do have POI's on the SD and an empty POI folder on the unit. I know I read here somewhere, that this prompt doesn't go away, so I'm sure it will be back. Probably when I do another POI.
I'm wondering if I OK-ed it and then removed them from the unit. Don't know if that would work. Just wondering.
Thanks, another hurdle past.

I don't know about the "modern" units like yours but, on my old 760, I also get the prompt asking if I want to move the POI files to the unit. I have to say "YES" before I get the option to skip them and not ask again. It's pretty weird and not at all intuitive but, once I say "YES" or "OK" or whatever it offers me I THEN get the option to skip the files and a box to check saying never to ask me about those particular files again.

Of course if I add new POI files to the card I once again get the prompt but I simply repeat the process for the new files and never get asked about them again.

It "may" work the same on your unit.

Or it may not. Garmin

Or it may not. Garmin removed the check box from the prompt in the 1xxx units.

From memory, on my 2797, I

From memory, on my 2797, I check the box to not ask me again, and click No. I believe.

If I update the POI's on the card it will ask me again and I just repeat the above steps.

Sleep Mode is Buggy

I like the sleep mode but I have to say, it's buggy now and then. I've had it hang up on me and it's almost like it needs a reboot just like a PC after a lot of use. A startup image option even with fast boot would still be nice.

Hey NachoB!

Yep. Just tested it and it stays off. I swear the other day it came up every time. I know there's another thread here saying how annoying it was because it came up every time.

Right. On the 2595 it's one box. Yes, No, and don't ask again.
Thanks, All.

I don't know why, but it's acting different today. Maybe the full charge. Maybe just my imagination. I did do some adjusting with the files.

Well, thanks for the reply's , have to go to Walmart now. cool

Static Screen

Our 2595 locks up sometimes when shutting off the car. Screen looks like an old TV with no signal. Have to hold the power button in to reset.

NachoB Is Right

I have a 2555 and a 350. Both ask if I want to load to the unit. If you check "No" in the "Do Not Ask Me Again" line, it will not ask that again. However, it will also show each updated POI file and you say "No" to each file as it displays them.

Once you go through that process, it will not bug you again, until you update and POI files on your SD.

Also, on the 25x5 series and likely any of the newer models, you have to completely shutdown the GPS, instead of just going to Sleep Mode. Otherise, it does not seem to see the new changes on the SD card.
