Hope

Hope you have lots of windshield or dash space as these 7" models are "REALLY" big. grin

note on resolution

Best Buy lists the resolution for the Garmin nüvi 2797LMT as 480 x 272. That's a typo because Crutchfield, and more importantly Garmin, has it as 800 x 480. Best Buy threw me for a loop. 800 x 480 is no "retina display", but 480 x 272 would have been ridiculous!

Console

I keep my Garmin on the console of the car. My husband drives and I look at the gps. We are always together so it works great. Love my Nexus 7 screen and a 7 inch gps would be great. But, as I said I will have to talk my husband into it. Getting the Nexus 7 and the smart phone in the last 7 or 8 months it might be a hard sale. May have to wait a bit...smile

Up to 1 hour

I just read the specs and it said "battery life up to 1 hour.
This is on the Garmin site. It can't be correct can it?

Price Competition?

You may want to wait a bit anyway. It's fairly probable that competition will be coming out for that model in the near future, which will probably cause a drop in its street price.

Sounds about right

The bigger the screen, the more power it needs. Using bluetooth, traffic, and if it still has a standard battery, then the 1 hour seems about right.

It probably is correct. As was said: bigger screen - bigger power usage. Keep in mind this is car unit, not pedestrian one. They are not designed to work on batteries but to be mainly powered from car power outlet. Battery is only to keep it going when you are starting engine or starting navigation on parking with engine stopped. It's not for walking around city

I have Nuvi 770 and Oregon 400t. Both can run on batteries. Nuvi can last maybe an hour now (it's old) but Oregon on 2AA rechargeable batteries can run 10-12 hours. So don't expect from car unit long work on batteries.

I'm holding out

I, too, got the email from Garmin about the two models of 7 inch GPS's ... one specifically tailored for RV.

I'm holding out for something bigger ... maybe 32 inches .. or 47 inches ... a dual big screen tv/gps. Of course, by then, vehicles will drive themselves.

Garmin 2797LMT Review - It's awesome!! A+

I have a 2009 Honda Accord and did a custom install where I moved my radio display down and inserted the 2797LMT where the factory navigation would normally be so blocked view is not an issue for me. It looks great and I absolutely love this GPS. With all the bells and whistles that this unit has, the 7" is essential. You will not be disappointed with this unit but I agree keep it powered whenever possible. I haven't tested the battery longevity but I think the website said 2-3 hours if I'm not mistaken. Bottom line, this is a fantastic GPS - highly recommended!!

Thanks for all the great information

I guess I didn't think about it not being a walk around unit. I looked and it said no pedestrian support.
My husband also said Wait!...maybe not for the same reasons above.

Will keep watching the 7 inch units for awhile ...

Thanks again to all above post. You always come through when I need any information.

Great bunch here...

I got my hopes up

At first read the e-mail and thought Garman was making new 7XX series again till I saw the 7". I have a tray mount for 7XX in my Frontier, my 765T works fine but be nice to get newer/another

Bought one of these about a

Bought one of these about a month ago, replacing a 265WT. When I first took it out of the box I was like, WHOA this thing is huge. But after using it for a while now it doesn't seem so big, and I love how quickly the screen redraws compared to the 265. So far no complaints about the unit. It's "cool" being able to talk to it.

Couldn't agree more

Couldn't agree more - seems huge at first but you quickly get used to it and it's just a great piece of technology. Sure wish Garmin would integrate their new wireless backup camera or even the wired camera input like the 760LMT Dezl has!!
