Nuvi 370 basemap deleted.

I was constantly reformatting a bunch of different SD cards and inadvertently formatted my basemap on the Nuvi(f)drive on the computer.
If anyone can help I now need the original basemap for North America and Europe,Please!

Garmin is suggesting a trade in and upgrade. Very unlikely they'll offer me much and this unit is excellent condition.

If this works out I'll definitely back everything up for sure.

File name

Do you know the names of the files which you deleted? Maybe someone can copy them off there gps and email them too you. Then you can just replace them.

Today is a gift, that's why they call it the present...

It's the gmapbmap.img file

It's the gmapbmap.img file size around 19,000kb or so usually followed by another 1kb file to back it up. Not sure if thats an unlock file or not.

Someone copying them for me is exactly what I'm hoping for. I know I'm not the first person this has happened to. Thanks!

.

It sounds as if you've contacted Garmin which is "suggesting a trade in and upgrade". Did you explain to them that all you need is the basemap file? Usually if the issue is a missing file, they can connect to your PC remotely (with your nuvi connected via USB) and load the file directly to your nuvi. You may want to call and ask them if this is possible for them to do.

The basemap is not locked nor protected in any way...I don't see why they wouldn't supply it to you via remote connection to your PC. As I said, try calling and asking them.

Note that the "followed by another 1kb file to back it up. Not sure if thats an unlock file or not." file you are likely referencing is the .sum file. This is merely a checksum file generated by the nuvi when it's on-board diagnostics are run (there are other numerous .sum files as well). This file is NOT needed by the nuvi.

Are you saying that your basemap was on a SD card?

Another odd thing

Also odd here is an accidental Format losing a file. Wouldn't a format wipe the entire device making it not bootable?

Please Clarify

I believe you are using the wrong terminology regarding Basemap. The Basemap file (gmapbmap.img) should be on your Nuvi, not on the SD card. There are no separate Basemaps for North America and Europe, one map covers the world.

I think what you meant to say is you formatted the SD card and lost you maps. Please advise if this is the case. If you deleted the maps when formatting you are out of luck unless you bought lifetime maps.
The 370 did not come with lifetime maps and you only have 1 year to download the original maps again, that 1 year has passed a long time ago.

Please describe what happens when you boot up the Nuvi without an SD card inserted.

If your

If your actually in need of a workable basemap for your Nuvi 370 you can obtain one from Garmin by downloading it from here:

http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=461

Note that although the page talks about this file being for a iQue 3600 it does work on the at least the Nuvi 3xx series devices.

Further information can be found at:

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/15809

and in links to other sites noted in that thread.

Thanks for the worldwide

Thanks for the worldwide link I have installed that several days ago. Still the unit is acting rather strangely.
I never said I had the basemap on an SD card, it's on my main (F) drive when the Garmin gets connected to the computer.
I was in the process of adding Europe on SDHC cards drive (e) which my unit doesn't like. 2GB basic SD cards seem to work fine.
My unit is up to date firmware wise but will not recognize SDHC. I have also tried installing maps while the card is in the unit drive (g) no go.

During the mess up of formatting the Garmin by mistake.
There were files left but not the basemap.
I was lucky partially with the unit it let me through Mapinstall to install my lifetime map updates.
I then tested it on a drive outside and the gps was all over the place.
Got Garmin on the phone as I'm typing so will see what happens.

Ah...one of our guys comes through every time. Nice work, Rick! I knew that link existed somewhere as I remember others needing the basemap in the past and it's an "official" Garmin download.

Well done, things are lookin' up.

Regarding your 370 not seeing City Navigator Europe: the nuvi 370 can not utilize files bigger than 2GB in size and the full City Nav Europe exceeds this (and City Nav North America is fast approaching 2GB):

http://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?supportPage=nuvi%20310&caseId={b4b6e4a0-f1af-11df-ea12-000000000000}&locale=en_US

You may need to copy & paste the above link to your browser if it's not "clickable."

If you own a new Garmin-made City Nav Europe on SD, it is not compatible with a nuvi 3xx and the only real solution is to buy a newer nuvi or to buy/install a different version of City Nav Europe that includes less than all of Europe

Sorted

Thank you all for your suggestions and help. Garmin came through over the phone.
Both customer service agents were very nice and worked well together to get me setup. They had an old 350 there and remotely downloaded the basemap files to my 370.
This unit will only take a 2GB limit on the Europe mapping. So I download GB & Ireland On the 370 and as much as the SD card will allow for the rest.

Thanks

Thanks for letting us know your results. Well done! Isn't it amazing what even the ancient nuvi 3xx series can still do?

@cofetym

Please do a complete backup of your files - so history does not repeat itself.
