GPX POI File: How Do I Get My Garmin Nuvi To Display The File's Locations

I'm not a tech head by any means and I use a Mac. This may be a really simple and stupid question, but I'm trying to get my Garmin Nuvi to load and display the Beall's Department Store POI files that are in .gpx format.

I couldn't find an answer in the FAQ section. Do I have to convert the file somehow to .csv? Or is there something else I should be doing?

Any help would be appreciated and go easy on me if this is something ridiculously simple.

gpx or csv both ok.

Garmin poiloader will load gpx or csv files. See http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25721 for installing custom pois.

See http://www.poi-factory.com/node/4359 for icons.

Already Know All That

charlesd45--Thanks, but I already know all that. I've got bunches of of .csv files and .bmp icon files already loaded in my Nuvi through POI Loader. For some reason though the POI Loader is not putting the .gpx files in the Nuvi or if it is, the Nuvi isn't displaying them.

Could it be a Mac thing?

If you have your custom pois

If you have your custom pois in sub folders. Make another sub folder just for the new gpx files and run poiloader again. Now see if they show up. What model Garmin do you have? If the other files show up the gpx should show also . You may have reach the file limit. Another sub folder will answer that.

I'll Try That

I'll try that as well as loading another .csv file to see if my unit is maxed out. I don't think that is the problem though as I don't have a lot of POI files loaded into it.

Just a couple questions

Just checking...

Are you loading the Beall's gpx file at the same time as your other csv files? If you loaded the gpx first with POI Loader, then ran POI Loader with your other csv files, unless you had POI Loader rename the loaded file, your 2nd use of POI Loader would overwrite the first and therefore remove the first ones from your nuvi.

Are these the Beall's files you're using (from The Factory's POI area):

•Bealls of Florida Department Stores
•Bealls Outlet Stores in Florida

It's possible that there could be a problem with the files causing them not to install. You could try another gpx file or we can wait to see if others report that each of the two Beall's POI files here at The Factory work well for them or if they also have a problem.

Loading All At The Same Time

CraigW--I'm loading all the files at the same time like I've been doing since I joined this site about three years ago. I've never had a problem before, but then again all the files in my POI folder are .csv files.

The files you listed above for Bealls are indeed the files I'm trying to load.

As I said before I'm a Mac user. I'm not sure if maybe that has something to do with it, or if those files are just bad.

I'm going to try and load a few other .gpx files to see if they work. I'll try a process of trial, error, and elimination.

Any error messages?

When you load all the pois with poiloader. You usually get message if all the pois don't load.

A quick check would be just load only the Beall's Department Store POI files. Then check if they show under custom pois.

No Error Message Is Displayed

charlesd45--No error message is displayed. It appears as if they load fine, but they do not appear on my Nuvi's menu with all the rest of my custom POI's. I even took the battery out and rebooted it after a file transfer.

The Bealls' files just don't show up.

Have you tried the separate

Have you tried the separate subfolder for them yet?I have seen this problem before and that usually is the fix.

Success!!! Thanks For All The Help

Thanks for all the help everyone. The above links about the .xml extension proved to be the key. I just went in and deleted that off the file name in both locations and bingo, I'm in business.

Thanks once again!

Bealls Is A Great Store Thanks

Charlesd45--Thanks again for all your help and yes Bealls is a great store. I'm an avid outdoorsman, water sports fanatic, and saltwater angler. Bealls has a great selection of Columbia/Reel Legends/Guy Harvey attire and at good discount prices and crazy one time sales in combination.

I just bought a pair of Columbia Drainmaker II wet shoes for wade fishing and kayaking this past Sunday at Bealls at a ridiculous price on a double discount.
