How to Activate Proximity Alerts for Nuvi 255w?

I feel like an idiot...

Although I've successfully loaded the Rest Areas POI, I can't figure out how to enable proximity alerts on my Garmin 255w.

Is there anyone out there who can guide me through the basic steps that I need to follow to activate this feature?

Any help would be appreciated!

Did you SET an alert when you loaded the file?

Note that regular Custom POIs do not alert by default. You must SET an alert if you wish to be alerted.

Reload them using POI Loader and choose MANUAL instead of EXPRESS and set the alert that you desire.

You can look at your manual http://www8.garmin.com/manuals/2675_OwnersManual.pdf and see that on page 37 it explains how to enable proximity alerts.

The FAQS have a lot of good info that will certainly get you started in the right direction.
