Move Favorites from Garmin c340 to c580

I've been happy with my Garmin c340. I just got a Garmin c580 which has the same comfortable user interface and is easier to manage with my PC.

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to export all my saved Favorites from my c340, so I can import them into my c580?

Thanks for any help!

.

I don't think you can do a file copy of the favorites (as on the nuvi series) to another unit so...

See this link:

Basically, you use MapSource (available from the link) to import favorites from your C340, then export those same favorites to your C580 (again, using MapSource).

There may be a different way using third-party software but this is Garmin's "official" way.

Look at this

Backup and restore favorites {G}

Favorites come from an "output only" file named Current.gpx. That is why - when moved to another unit, the name must be something other than "Current.gpx" and the suggestion is to call the transferred file "Current1.gpx"

No mass storage mode.

Since the C340 does not have a mass storage mode, there is no "current.gpx" file to copy. Therefore the method described by DorkusNimrod is the way to go.

Don't have a Streetpilot but what I read you saying is that one can not see files like /Garmin/GPX.

.

No USB Mass Storage mode equates to the nuvi not showing up as a standard USB drive. If you cannot see it as a drive, you cannot manipulate the contents via the standard "disk" method.

Prior to the nuvi line (not 100% positive though), data was transferred between the PC and the device using a non-standard Garmin protocol. If the units had an actual file structure, the user was not able to access it directly. Access required Garmin proprietary software.

@dorkus

thanks for the reply. I was just assuming that most, if not all, Garmins were either able to act in Mass Storage Mode MSM) or in Media Transfer Protocal (MTP) (in which units one should be able to get to MSS thru some action).

I think it would be helpful for us to know which Garmin units cannot be seen by the computer as a removable drive. I certainly need to adjust my "Backup" Tutorial to note that some units are not seen when attached to a PC.

Thus, if anyone knows of older units unable to be in MSM - and I assume the Streetpilot C340 is one of those - then please post them in this forum so we can compile an accurate list.

Thanks

The c340 does not have a

The c340 does not have a mass storage mode. None of the c300 family or any before it have that mode

I believe that the c500 series is the first to have a mass storage mode.

O.K., figured out how to

O.K., figured out how to install MapSource.

I successfully uploaded the waypoints from my c340 to MapSource.

I can save as a .gpx file, which is an easy to read XML format and contains all my waypoint data, including the address, which is duplicated as

<cmt>address info</cmt>
and
<desc>address info</desc>

but when I import these to my c580, the addresses do not import to the c580.

Any suggestions?

UPDATE: Well, my c580 takes address tags not supported by my c340. So the fastest way was to use MapSource to edit each waypoint and cut/paste the partial address info in the Comment section into the appropriate address area.

So far, looks like mission accomplished.
