V7.90 on my 2555LMT

Yup ... was advised by GE, but to be sure, I used WebUpdater for the install. Smooth & quick and no problems at all.

Based on comments I've read here, I don't think I'm ready to trust GE for updates... especially when WebUpdater works so efficiently.

Anyone tried GE for this update yet?

I plan to give V6.3 a week or so to find out if the traffic icon turns grey when no traffic info is received for a while.

I might give the new V7.9 a try afterwards. Updating to >V7.2 so far has made the traffic capability worse. Maybe V7.90 would be a charm.

FMI improvements

>>FMI improvements<<

Hmmmm....this is intriguing. Can the smarter folks here tell us of this means "traffic"? Could it be that the traffic reception issues have been investigated and fixed and perhaps the "always-green-traffic-icon" issue has been fixed as well? I'll let you know!

>>Improved software stability<<

Always loved this one too and I have to admit it's the hook that always gets me to take the FW update. redface

7.80 had fixed the traffic reception issue on my 2555LMT, but not the always green icon. Hopefully 7.90 will at least not break the traffic reception.

I might give the new V7.9 a try afterwards. Updating to >V7.2 so far has made the traffic capability worse. Maybe V7.90 would be a charm.

Took the plunge and updated. This V7.90 is working well so far:

1. V7.6-7.8 show only red conditions on the high-ways (GTM35/60). It is fixed in V7.90.

2. Looks like it also fixed "traffic is up to date" problem the moment the GTM35/GTM60 is connected (V7.6-V7.8). Now it displays "searching for traffic update" initially and switches to "traffic is up to date" when it locks on to a station. It takes only a few seconds to lock to a station, not bad.

3.Local street traffic information appears to be less frivolous (GTM60). I will see if it is more accurate. GTM35 shows only very spotty local traffic info.

4. Still no grey icon when traffic signal is lost. I checked out the V6.30. It is the same way.

Just read it.
Sorry to hear that the traffic is not working on your 3590, Speed2. I have the 2495LMTHD from Costco.com USA. It came with the GTM60. The traffic has worked with firmware V7.2 and earlier and now with V7.9 too.

It had issues with V7.5-V7.8 as I outlined in my previous post.

GTM60 should have worked in non HD regions such as Canada based on the info that I am aware of.

With firmware V7.7/7.8/7.9, the traffic information screen shows if the traffic is HD or not when you hit the traffic icon. In my area, I seem to get HD all the time. The HD indicator is not there when I connect the GTM35 to the 2495.

Tried both cables, the GTM 35 off of my 3790.
Doesn't matter, same issue, searches, updates, updated, searches, updates, updated over and over.
Doesn't stop. Searching takes a long time to lock, why it keeps doing that is beyond me.

I observed a similar behavior with my 2495 only with V7.5 and maybe V7.6.

Have you updated to firmware V7.9? I think this version works the best.

Of course, because it wasn't working with the prior version. Was waiting for you to tell me if V6.3.1
was better.

Just downloaded, we'll see

I just downloaded 7.9. I hope it works well. If it acts buggy, I'll surely post and let folks know.

Update

Had a chance to take the 2595 on an extended trip and noted two things that are different with v7.90:

My custom POI icons (speed and red-light cameras and rest areas) now have a white square around them with the little pointer at the bottom. This really makes the icons pop out on the screen. The only glitch I noticed is that -some- of the rest area icons were doubled up: one with the white square, one without. On the negative side, the volume for the voice announcements accompanying the POI is now LOWER than the volume of the turn-by-turn voice. (good grief! sad ) Seems to be about one "click" lower. I KNOW this wasn't the case before. Can't say for sure v7.90 changed this, but the volume used to be the same. I can't imagine how this can be so, but it's true.

Traffic: Reception seems better. My basis for saying this is I checked the stored channels after the trip and it was loaded with both Total Traffic and Navteq entries: about 17 total. Spot checks of the traffic signal screen showed multiple green bars during the trip and I didn't catch it with "searching for signal" even once.

Fingers crossed!

Map Icon Color

So, now:
Stock POI - Blue
Favorite - Green
Custom POI - White

That's good to know. I will have to check mine to see mine is displaying that way to.

I wondered what that was. I have a misplaced (on the map) health clinic on my maps near me and I thought that was what it was.

POI Icons

I use a little traffic signal icon for the red light cams and a small speedometer icon for the speed cams. They were always a little hard to spot on the screen, unlike the Garmin ones with their box and pointer outline (ATM's, Domino's, Fuel). Not so anymore with this update. They really stand out now.

Anyone else notice the volume-reduction on the POI announcements that I reported?

--
"Primum Non Nocere" 2595LMT Clear Channel and Navteq Traffic

Not crazy about the update.

I didn’t care much for the update to 7.90. I also noticed it would take longer to calculate a simple route. I rolled back to 7.60 which I found to be quick and stable on my 3590.

Authentication Error with upgrade.

I did the map and firmware update last night through Garmin Express. It saved the maps on the SD card since the internal memory was insufficient.

This morning the GPS reported that the Maps could not be authenticated.

I am not sure what this means and how it will affect its use.

My unit is the nuvi 3790 LMT
