Garmin NUVI 3590LMT Traffic Issues-Does Your Traffic Icon Always Stay Green?

We already have a post for the 25x5’s. I decided to start this one because I think we have the same issues. I have some posts in there.

I don’t want rewrite it all here what I posted in there. Sufficient enough to say, 3590 traffic icon also always stays green. This morning I decided to take the power cable from my 3790 and test it on the 3590. One of the reasons I did that was I was curios why
Costco in Canada is selling them as 3580 and supplying them with GMT-36 receivers rather than the GTM 60 HD Digital Traffic Receiver. The question is why? Do we here in Canada not have digital Traffic and if not will it still work? If one looks at the coverage here http://www.navteq.com/hdtraffic/index_460.htm the answer is no, blue dots indicate 3d. We look here http://www.navteq.com/rdstraffic/ the answer is yes. Both these come from Garmin’s web site. Behavior of my unit was the same, kept searching for service, updating service, service updated. Over and over, drove me nuts. At one point I hit the magnifying icon and it gave me some cross streets with green vertical lines beside them on the right side. Good… it was working. Also In that screen I zoomed out on the Map and found some red triangle sign, hit that and it said 14 minute delay. Good still working. Went back to the traffic screen and watch it search some more. Hit the magnifier again and nothing on the right side showing me upcoming streets. Aha not working. Zoomed in on the map saw another triangle and hit that and my unit rebooted. BTW all this stupid button pushing was done while I was driving since one cannot do it through voice command, NOT a good thing. If I ever saw the green traffic icon change to yellow or red like my 3790 does I wouldn’t have to do this. I don’t like this thing, Craigslist here I come.

3490LMT & GTM60 loves to search for service...seemingly every minute or two. And it's not like I'm in the boonies with no available transmitting stations either. I'm in SoCal and my traffic provider table has litererally twenty or so stations to choose from. The majority of the time, it's "searching for service".

My 3790LMT and GTM36 (non-HD) lock onto a station and stay locked for long periods of time and even though the service is non-HD, I tend to trust it more because it actually maintains that lock rather than continually "searching for service".

The traffic icon always stays green on both units when the unit is connected to the GTM. Regardless of stale traffic, "searching for service" or "no service", its always green....unless traffic is actually found. Then it turns to yellow or red depending on severity.

I guess we are in agreement. Two questions, I'm gathering you actually saw the icon change color on your 3490? Do you find the 3790's traffic icon changes color more often?

Oh sure, I definitely get the traffic icon changing color (to yellow and red) when traffic is detected on both the 3490 and 3790. It just never changes to grey when there's no signal, searching for service, etc. The color change to grey should be (and definitely used to be) an indication to the user that something is up with the service, reception, etc. As it is now, it's green (meaning everything is fine) even if there are reception issues when previously (at least on my 765T) it turned grey with reception issues.

Does the 3790 icon change color more often than the 3490? There's no way for me to answer that with any certainty since I'd need to run both units/GTMs side by side at the same time for a direct comparison.

2495 behaves the same as 3490/370

The behavior of my 2495 is identical to DorkusNimrod's Nuvis. The traffic does work. It just lacks the "grey = no traffic info" functionality in the pre-2012 models. Tried both GTM35 and GTM60, same behavior.

I use the 3790 in the car and the 3590 in the truck.
The 3790 is faster, and yes i also used both cables on the 3590 to try..same sluggish behavior
