touch screen not responding

I had a scare the other day. I hadn't used my Nuvi for a while and when I took it out to the car, the touch screen didn't respond. Some of the icons did not respond at all, some responded if I pressed real hard. It was frustrating and I thought my beloved 765t was gone. I did a hard reboot and it is at least responding now but it seems as if I have to press harder than I did before. Is there any fix to this problem if it happens again.

Touchscreen

Read the following and as recommended first try and calibrate the screen to see if that helps any http://www.sharc.net/gps_LCD_repair.htm

I don't use my unit that often neither and store it indoors thus avoiding the constant change of temperature that happens within a vehicle. As with everything, it must be used periodically for it to remain in working order therefore once a month I'll plug it in and use it.

Good luck smile

Thanks.

I just recalibrated. I am keeping my fingers crossed that it continues to work..

Garmin link

The garmin instructions are at http://iqc.garmin.com/eCustomer/KODSelfService/

and search for "recalibrate touchscreen 765"

or look at page 44 of your manual

EDIT:
Whoops - too late. Good for you

@ jgermann

I'm just wondering why you would post a link to the Garmin site when it's written in your "Beginners Education 7 - Calibrate Nuvi Touchscreen"

Well, I can't think of a particularly good reason except I already had up that Garmin Knowledge Base site looking for another answer - so I just changed tabs, tried the search, and found it worked - so I changed back to the poi-factory tab and sent the link. That is where I got the info for #7.

Now that I think about it, maybe I was wanting to make sure that site members were aware of that particular Garmin (unsupported according to them) site. Right, that must have be it.

Well - to tell the truth - you got me.

Still having problems

Touch screen is not responding. I have to press it really hard to get anything to move and then it is not always what I want. Does this mean my 765t is on its last legs. Is there any other way to fix this.

Ok, time to

Thanks. Now I have to decide if it is worth it to fix. Is anything else going to go bad. Are there any new models out there that are comparable to my 765t.

Recalibrate touch screen

I had to recalibrate my touch screen about 3 times for it to respond the way I needed it to.

Use a pencil eraser

I find that using a pencil eraser to touch the dots during recalibration works best for me.

About 3 years ago, I sent my 660 to Jim at Sharcnet to replace a non-responsive touch screen. It has worked perfectly ever since and nothing else has gone wrong with it.

It was important to me to keep the 660 running for 2 reasons - I use the mp3 player function a lot, and, at the time, I had just recently purchased lifetime map updates which aren't transferable to a new unit.

Prior to the touch screen replacement, I had done my own battery replacement, too.

shipped it off yesterday

I want to thank everyone at the POI Factory for their help and support. I shipped my 765t yesterday. Jim has been very responsive and I am going to get the battery changed in the process (something that I wanted to do for a while). I miss it already but looking forward to having a responsive unit when it is fixed.

Jim will take great care of you (and the 765)
