Beginners Education 7 - Calibrate the touchscreen on a nuvi?

Note: For best results, use a stylus and carefully press each calibration dot in the exact center and hold for a moment for registration to take place. You will then get a more accurate calibration.

Note: for other Garmin units, go to https://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/search.htm and put "recalibrate screen" into the search box.

To calibrate the touchscreen on nuvi 30/40/50 series

1.Start with the device turned off and disconnected from power
2.Press and hold the top left corner of the touchscreen
3.Power the device on while continuing to apply light pressure to the screen
4.Release the touchscreen once the screen displays "Press dot"
5.Accurately touch the center of the dots that appear on the screen
(The dots will change location)
6.Touch OK when "Calibration Complete" appears

To calibrate the touchscreen on nuvi 200 series

1.Have the unit turned OFF and unplugged from power.
2.Slide the power switch to the ON position and hold for about 45 seconds.
3.A message will display on the screen: Press Dot.
4.Once this message displays, release the Power button.
5.Press in the center of the Dot.
6.Keep pressing in the center of the Dot as it moves around the screen.
7.Once this is complete, there will be a message: Calibration Complete.
8.Touch Ok and the unit will restart.
The touchscreen will now be recalibrated.

*Note if unit is running software version 6.00 or newer you will want to follow steps below.

To calibrate the touchscreen on your nuvi 205 series

1.Have the unit turned OFF and unplugged from power.
2.Place your finger in the top left hand corner of the touch screen and apply pressure.
3.Slide the power switch to the ON position. Once unit powers on release the power button.
4.Hold pressure in left corner until the Press dot message appears.
5.Once this message displays, remove your finger from the screen.
6.Press in the center of the Dot.
7.Keep pressing in the center of the Dot as it moves around the screen.
8.Once this is complete, there will be a message: Calibration Complete.
9.Touch Ok and the unit will restart.

To calibrate the screen on a nuvi 295W

1.Turn off the device.
2.Hold device so the power button is on top (portrait orientation).
3.Press and hold the power button until the calibration screen appears(about 60 seconds).
4.Release the power button
5.Follow the directions to calibrate the screen
The screen is now re-calibrated and ready for use.

To calibrate the touchscreen on a nuvi 300 or 600 series:
1.Power the unit On.
2.From the Where to? / View map screen, touch Settings (wrench icon).
3.Touch Display.
4.Touch Recalibrate.
5.A new screen will display that says Press Dot.
6.Touch the center of the dot.
7.Keep touching the center of the dot as it moves around the screen.
8.When Calibration Complete appears on the screen, please touch OK.

The touchscreen will now be recalibrated.

If your touchscreen is not responding to any touch and preventing you from recalibrating the touchscreen using the instructions above, please follow the steps below:

1.Connect your nuvi to your computer with a compatible USB cable.
2.Open the Garmin Nuvi drive located in MyComputer/Computer. (Note: Mac users can locate the Garmin Nuvi drive icon on the Desktop.)
3.Open the Garmin folder.
4.Locate and delete the GUPDATE.GCD file.1
5.Safely disconnect your nuvi from your computer.
6.Power the nuvi Off.
7.Press the hold the power button down for 1-2 minutes. (The screen may display Pre-Boot Mode during this time.)
8.Continue holding the power button until the screen calibration option displays.
9.Touch the center of the dot as it moves around the screen.
10.When Calibration Complete appears on the screen, please touch OK.

The touchscreen will now be recalibrated and should respond properly.

Notes:
1. If the GUPDATE.GCD file is not in your Garmin folder, then you will need to update or reinstall the system software in your nuvi and then try the screen calibration steps again once the update is complete. To calibrate the touchscreen on a nuvi 465 series device

1.Have the unit turned OFF and unplugged from power
2.Slide the power switch to the ON position and hold for about 45 seconds
3.A message will display on the screen: Press Dot.
4.Once this message displays release the power button
5.Press in the center of the Dot.
6.Keep pressing in the center of the Dot as it moves around the screen.
7.Once this is complete, there will be a message: Calibration Complete.
8.Touch Ok and then unit will restart.

To calibrate the touchscreen on a nuvi 500 series device

1.Make sure the nuvi is turned off
2.Press and hold the top left corner of the touchscreen
3.Power the unit on while applying pressure on the top left corner
4.Continue applying pressure to the top left of the screen
5.After about 30 seconds a small dot will appear
6.Release the touchscreen and accurately touch the dots as they appear (The dots will change location as touched)
7.Once complete a message will appear, ‘Calibration Complete’, Touch OK

To calibrate the touchscreen on a nuvi 700 or 705 series

1.Start with the unit powered OFF and unplugged from power supply.
2.Press and hold your finger anywhere on the touch screen.
3.Next, slide the power switch to the ON position and then immediately slide it into the Lock position. (There is no need to wait for the screen to flash on or show the Garmin logo before moving the switch into the Lock position.)
4.Leave your finger on the screen for about 45 seconds.
5.Two intersecting lines should display on the screen along with the message: Press Dot.
Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the screen calibration procedure. Once it is completed the unit will display Calibration Complete.

To calibrate the touchscreen on a nuvi 800 or 805 series device

1.Make sure your device is off
2.Remove the battery from your device for 10 seconds
3.Press and hold the touchscreen then put the battery back in
4.The unit will power on and go into pre-boot mode. Continue holding the screen until pre-boot goes away and the progress bar appears then release the screen
5.Two intersecting lines should display on the screen along with the message: Press Dot
6.Follow the rest of the on screen prompts to complete the screen recalibration

Once it is completed the unit will display Calibration Complete

To calibrate the touchscreen of a nuvi 11xx/12xx/13xx/14xx/16xx/22xx/23xx/24xx/25xx series unit

1.Make sure the nuvi is turned off
2.Press and hold the top left corner of the touchscreen
3.Power the unit on while applying pressure on the top left corner
4.Continue applying pressure to the top left of the screen
5.After about 30 seconds a small dot will appear on a white screen
6.Release the touchscreen and accurately touch the dots as they appear (The dots will change location as touched)
7.Once complete a message will appear, ‘Calibration Complete’, Touch OK

To calibrate the screen for a nuvi 37xx?

Since the device has a capacitive touch screen it does not have a calibration procedure. Only resistive touch screens require such a feature, as capacitive touch screens respond to the current from fingertips, not location touched on the screen, which is why the 37xx will not respond if using a stylus or pencil eraser

To calibrate the touchscreen on a nuvi 5000

1.Start with the unit OFF.
2.Press and hold your finger in the upper left corner of the touchscreen.
3.Power the unit ON while continuing to hold your finger on the touchscreen.
4.The nuvi will display 'Pre-Boot Mode' and a progress bar. Continue to hold your finger on the touchscreen during these processes.
5.Leave your finger on the screen until the 'Press Dot' screen appears.
6.Touch the center of the dot.
7.Continue touching the center of the dot as it moves around the screen.
8.After all the dots have been pressed, a 'Calibration Complete' message will appear on the screen.
9.Touch OK and the unit will restart.
