Beginners Education 7 - Calibrate the touchscreen on a Garmin Automotive Device

Note: For best results, use a stylus and carefully press each calibration dot in the exact center and hold for a moment for registration to take place. You will then get a more accurate calibration.

If the touchscreen on your nuvi, dezl, LIVE, RV/Camper, or zumo series device is inaccurate or not responding, it may need to be calibrated.

Note: Make sure your device’s system software is up-to-date before attempting a recalibration. You can do this with Garmin Express program,

1. Start with the device powered off and disconnected from power
2. Touch and hold the upper left hand corner of the touchscreen when in the landscape position
3. Power the device on
4. Release the power button when the screen turns on but continue to apply pressure to the screen
5. Release the touchscreen when it changes and "Touch Dot" appears
6. Accurately touch the dots as they appear
  The dots will change location
  A stylus may be used to accurately touch the dots
7. Touch OK when "Calibration Complete" appears

The touchscreen is now calibrated. Repeat the above steps as needed.

nuvi 200, 465 series, zumo 450, and 550:

1. Start with the device turned off and unplugged from power
2. Slide the power switch to the on position and hold for about 45 seconds
3. Release the power button when the "Press Dot" message appears
4. Accurately touch the dots as they appear
  The dots will change location
  A stylus or pencil eraser may be used to accurately touch the dots
5. Touch OK when "Calibration Complete" appears

The touchscreen is now recalibrated. Repeat the above steps as needed.

Note:Some nuvi 200 series devices will recalibrate using the same steps as the nuvi 205 series.

nuvi 295W:

1. Power your nuvi off
2. Hold the nuvi so that the power button is on top (portrait orientation)
3. Press the hold the power button for about 60-90 seconds until the calibration screen appears
4. Release the power button
5. Follow the directions to calibrate the touch screen
  The dots will change location
  A stylus or pencil eraser may be used to accurately touch the dots
6. The screen is now calibrated and ready for use.

The touchscreen is now recalibrated. Repeat the above steps as needed.

nuvi 300 and 600 series:
1. Power the device on
2. From the Where to? / View map screen, touch Settings (wrench icon)
3. Touch Display
4. Touch Recalibrate
5. A new screen will display that says Press Dot
6. Accurately touch the dots as they appear
  The dots will change location
  A stylus or pencil eraser may be used to accurately touch the dots
7. When Calibration Complete appears on the screen, please touch OK

If your touchscreen is not responding to any touch and preventing you from recalibrating the touchscreen using the instructions above, please follow the steps below:
1. Connect your nuvi to your computer with a compatible USB cable
2. Open the Garmin nuvi drive located in My Computer or Computer (note: Mac users can locate the GARMIN drive icon on the Desktop or in Finder)
3. Open the Garmin folder
4. Locate and delete the GUPDATE.GCD file (see note 1)
5. Safely disconnect your nuvi from your computer
6. Power the nuvi Off
7. Press and hold the power button down for 1-2 minutes (the screen may display Pre-Boot Mode during this time)
8. Continue holding the power button until the screen calibration option displays
9. Release the power button and accurately touch the dots as they appear
  The dots will change location
  A stylus or pencil eraser may be used to accurately touch the dots
10. When Calibration Complete appears on the screen, please touch OK

Note 1: If the GUPDATE.GCD file is not in your Garmin folder, you will need to update or reinstall the system software in your nuvi. Try the screen calibration steps again once the update is complete.

nuvi 5000:
To complete a touchscreen calibration on these devices complete a software update and use the following directions:
1. Start with the unit off and unplugged from a power source
2. Press and hold your finger in the upper left corner of the touchscreen
3. While continuing to hold your finger on the touchscreen, power the device back on by plugging it in to a power source
4. The nuvi will display 'Pre-Boot Mode' and a progress bar.
5. Continue to hold your finger on the touchscreen until the "Press Dot" screen appears
6. Accurately touch the dots as they appear
  The dots will change location
  A stylus or a pencil eraser may be used to accurately touch the dots
7. Touch OK when "Calibration Complete" appears and the device will restart

The touchscreen is now be calibrated. Repeat the above steps as necessary.

nuvi 700 and 705 series:

1. Start with the device powered OFF and unplugged from power supply.
2. Press and hold your finger anywhere on the touch screen.
3. Next, slide the power switch to the ON position and then immediately slide it into the Lock position. (There is no need to wait for the screen to flash on or show the Garmin logo before moving the switch into the Lock position.)
4. Release the touchscreen when the "Press Dot" appears
5. Accurately touch the dots as they appear
  The dots will change location
  A stylus or pencil eraser may be used to accurately touch the dots
6. Touch OK when "Calibration Complete" appears
The touchscreen is now calibrated. Repeat the above steps as needed.

nuvi 800 and 805 series:
To complete a touchscreen calibration on these devices complete a software update and use the following directions:
1. Start with the device off and unplugged from any power source
2. Remove the battery from the device for 10 seconds
3. Press and hold the touchscreen and then put the battery back in the device
4. The device will power on and go into pre-boot mode. Continue holding the screen and the pre-boot will be replaced with a progress bar
5. Release the screen when the progress bar appears.
6. Two intersecting lines should display on the screen along with the message: Press Dot
7. Accurately touch the dots as they appear
  The dots will change location
  A stylus or pencil eraser may be used to accurately touch the dots
8. Touch OK when "Calibration Complete" appears

The touchscreen is now calibrated. Repeat the above steps as needed.

zumo 660 and 665:
To complete a touchscreen calibration on these devices complete a software update and use the following directions:
1. Turn your device on
2. Touch Tools
3. Touch Settings
4. Touch Display
5. Touch the Calibrate button
6. Touch the dot on the screen and follow the dots as they move
o A stylus or pencil eraser may be used to accurately touch the dots
7. Touch OK when "Calibration Complete" appears
The touchscreen will now be calibrated. Repeat the above steps as needed.

If your touchscreen is not responding to any touch and preventing you from calibrating the touchscreen with the steps above, please do the following:
1. Hold the center of the touchscreen and the power button down until you get the press dot screen
2. Touch the dot on the screen and follow the dots as they move
  A stylus or pencil eraser may be used to accurately touch the dots
3. Touch OK when "Calibration Complete" appears
The touchscreen will now be calibrated.

nuvi 2509, 2609, 2709, 3400, 3500, 3700, 3507, 3508, series, dezl 570, and 770:
These devices do not have a manual touchscreen recalibration procedure. The capacitive touchscreen is automatically calibrated each time the system boots up.
