I need a non-geek to explain in simple language how to transfer favorites

Once I attach my c550 to my PC..... none of the answers regarding transferring favorites are relevant to the information on my screen i.e. none of the Garmin files available respond to the information given. I have been at this for 6 months and so far no help. I just keep re-entering data manually on the new unit...I have about 900 address to go.

Help us help you

Please add some more detail:
1) What was the old unit?
2) What is the new unit?
3) What program are you using to transfer with?
4) What version of said program?

This should do the trick...

Quoted from another topic...Open you Garmin after plugging into your computer. "If they are "favorites" then they are in your gpx file (Garmin\gpx\current.gpx). You can copy that file to the new unit."

Welcome

Welcome to the site.

There is a Getting Started button in the upper right of this page right under POI Files. It is worthwhile visiting this page.

To make navigation easy, most browsers provide the following option. When you want to follow a link - but still keep your current page open - you can hold down the "Ctrl" key as you left-click on a link. That action will open a new "Tab" in your browser up on the "Tab" bar. When you then left-click on that new "Tab", you will follow the link - leaving the "Tab" you are now reading open and available to click on and return here.

So, using the "Getting Started" link, you might try the "Ctrl" - left-click sequence and then return here. You can return by either "X-ing" out of the "Getting Started" page (using the "X" on the "Tab" itself) or just left-clicking on the "Tab" for the page you are on right now.

Since you are new here, I encourage you to go through a couple of the Beginner Education FAQs.

The first link makes sure the settings on your computer are such that you can do more advanced POI loading.

The next link helps you make a backup of your GPS by attaching it to your computer. (NEVER do anything to your GPS until you have a backup)

Now - to your question on "transferring favorites".

Your profile says that you have a C550. This is an older device and I guess we should assume that you are trying to transfer the favorites on the C550 to a newer device. If that is the case, then you might want to update your profile to indicate the new device.

However, your comment about "900 addresses to go" seems to mean that we are not talking about "favorites" as defined in your manual on page 10. Plus, Garmin specs say the C550 can have up to 500 favorites.

Describe these "900 addresses" a bit more for us.

Once again, Welcome

Transferring data

is it possible to transfer the top speed, total miles data etc.. Both Garmins are nuvi 2595s. One has a loose USB jack

Probably not...

To my knowledge no, but you might post a totally new thread and see what answers you get instead of adding to a 7 year old thread. If you do so, please elaborate as to why you would want to do this as I’m curious.

They probably want to keep their "Max Speed". My old Nuvi 660 has a max speed recorded of 504 mph that was recorded on a Southwest Airlines flight to Las Vegas from Norfolk about 15 yrs. ago.

Maybe I am wrong, but when you use GE to download a new map is there not an option given to save/ move favourites etc.?
So I wonder if GE could be used for that?

GE can backup a device or transfer favourites from one device to another but not the data mentioned by JimElvis
