'Lock' a Route

GPS Model: Nuvi 855

Several times a year I travel to play golf. I always program my routes on the computer and then transfer the Waypoints/Routes to the GPS via USB.

Bear with me....

Most of the places I want to golf at are on I-81 until I get abeam Charlotte at I-77. However, quite often my Nuvi wants to send me over to I-95 which is too close to Washington (traffic). Or, I'm driving down an interstate and the route the Nuvi picks is not the route I transferred from the computer.

I've seen some lovely country around Luray, but when you're trying to meet a tee-time, you don't want a 40 mile scenic route.

Does selecting 'shortest route' over-ride the route downloaded? Is there a way to 'lock' the route downloaded and prevent the Nuvi from modifying the route?

I've got the 885 which is the same unit except with Bluetooth. The unit ALWAYS recalculates any route from start to finish using the waypoints in the route. The only way to force a particular route is to use enough waypoints or "via" points to stay on the desired route. Selecting shortest or fastest is no real help.

I can only lock it by appling enough waypoints (vias) to force it.

You could try using the forced detour or avoidance tool. I have had some success with that, but find vias easier toset up.
