Garmin DEZL 560 Truckdown database missing

i recently purchased the dezl 560LMT looking through the various things and truckdown was one.. i updated the map and now the truckdown database doesnt show up when i click on Where To.. any ideas on how to fix this

One question

Welcome to The Factory.

As we wait for input from other dezl users, I have one question for you.

Have you ever installed Custom POI files using Garmin's POI Loader program? I ask because some earlier versions of POI Loader offered the ability to remove all Custom POIs and some dezl folks found out the hard way that this included removing the trucker database. I'm pretty sure that the current POI Loader has removed this "feature."

If you haven't done so yet, most folks here will strongly recommend a backup of your dezl's files to a computer hard drive. With a backup, in case the trucker database was deleted or corrupted on your dezl, it could be copied back to the device from your backup.

Then again, other dezl users may have info on how to get the info to reappear on your device if it hasn't been removed but just disabled or something...or possibly (I doubt this) let you know that the database file is specific to a given map version and that you need to update the database to be used with the new map. Now I'm just rambling since I have no experience with a trucker's GPS.

and to follow up

Following up on Craig's points, Garmin will not make that database available outside what comes on a new unit. The only way to restore it (assuming you haven't overwritten it) is to have someone with it on their unit to give you a copy.

Craig thanks for replying

Craig thanks for replying all i did was update the map.. in the garmin unit via windows explorer the truckdown gpi is still there, but this happened with the last update and i called tech support and they did a remote session with me to get the unit to recognise the database.. all they did was edit the GarminDevice.xml to reflect the Truckdown Datatype..
i tried to do the same thing but the unit itself keeps rewriting the file, even the one they remotly gave me.. im stumped

Good to know

It's good to know the file is still there. It sounds like you may have to call Garmin again and have them do another remote repair.

Needless to say, a map update shouldn't be creating errors like this so something must be wrong on Garmin's end with the update process itself.

I don't see how editing the GarminDevice.xml file could help...this file gets overwritten on every power-cycle with values derived from the flashed firmware that is on the unit. The file is overwritten on *all* nuvis (not just your DEZL) at every power-cycle (an "output" file). AFAIK, the only way to properly populate GarminDevice.xml with correct values is for the flashed firmware to populate it...that is of course if Garmin does something "special" with GarminDevice.xml that can in fact do it somehow.

thanks for all your

thanks for all your comments, i ended up calling garmin support back and they edited my GarminDevice.xml file again then i have to reinstall maps with the updated file copied onto unit..

I have found

I have found that I never use the NTTS database. I HAVE it, but the POI files from this site are much better, and most are kept more up to date. Unless you're looking for something a little more rare, like where to buy pallets or something.

In a different thread, another dezl user has confirmed this and confirmed that Garmin has identified this as a known bug in the current and previous map update process that they need to fix.
