Large JCV file for CN NA 2013.40

I posted this in the map update thread, but thought it might deserve it's own thread:

A user over on the Garmin Software forums is reporting that Garmin is again posting the Large JCV file on their site. Here is the post: https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?34677-CN-NA-NT-2013... and here is the download link: http://download.garmin.com/support/2013_40/NA/JV/D3060090A.J...

I criticized Garmin and posted a "shame on Garmin" comment during the last map update because they failed to make the large JCV file available to their loyal customers. If they have reversed this decision, my hat's off to them for once again doing the right thing.

Note: just downloaded this as a test and compared it to the file I got with my 755T map update. Same file! Thanks Garmin!

I downloaded large JCV file

I downloaded large JCV file to my PC's hard drive. Can I just "drag" file over to Garmin folder on microSD card ? I will rename small JCV file that is currently on card.

I did as you said,

I did as you said, installing large JCV to SD card, renaming small JCV file to .old

Tried simulating route (GPS Simulator "ON")to location I frequently travel to that has always displayed junction views along the way...NO junction views appear at all.

Any idea what's going on ?

Thanks

Thank you sir...

NUVI 2555 and JCV

This is the first time that I have a GPS with Junction View and I would like to know if the JCV will download automatically, when I update the map.

I only got mine 2 days ago and my map is currently about 4 maps behind.

I use the good old fashion update procedure, instead of Garmin Express.

Yes. On your 2555, each time you do a map update you will receive the correct jcv file for your nuvi. No extra effort is needed.

With your new nuvi, you have a free map update to the latest map (2013.40). I'm not sure if you've already done this. And if your nuvi is a LM or LMT model, you will have free map updates coming about four times a year.

Recapping

On my SD card I have a folder named Garmin.
Inside that folder I have a folder named JCV.
Inside the JCV folder is a file named D3060090A.JCV
...
On my 1490LMT I have a folder named .System
Inside that folder I have a folder named JCV.
That folder is empty.
..
Is that similar to what you have?

My guess is that cruisefor2 followed earlier instructions in this thread and put the large jcv file in the SD card's garmin folder. As you state here, cruisefor2 needs to put the large jcv file in the SD card's garmin\jcv subfolder.

Thanks for the info. The JCV part was all new to me. Never thought JCV would be a big deal, until I actually saw it work and also glad to see it works in Canada's major highways along with the Speed Limit.

Wish I had it on my trip to Florida, especially through Atlanta.

I'm anxious to get to try out some of the other features.

Spokybob, your reply clears

Spokybob, your reply clears things up quite a bit. As you state, I put large JCV file in SD card's "Garmin" folder. Garmin folder on my SD card did not have a JCV subfloder...it does now !

I'm going to copy large JCV file to jcv subfolder and run update again. I will let you know how things work out.

Thanks again for your advice.

Wouldn't want to go without JCV

I have a 1450LMT and won't update until I know the large JCV file is available. Actually seeing what the exit looks like is very helpful when travelling through unknown areas, especially when I was driving a large moving truck and towing a car behind.

Level of Expertise - Garmin Customer Service

The varying levels of expertise among Garmin Customer Service reps amazes to me. Majority I have spoken to regarding large JCV files for Nuvi 1490LMT don't have a clue. With persistence I have been able to locate a few individuals who are extremely helpful. That combined with expertise of contributors to this site are a godsend.

Thanks for the info

Will try this later.

I have two JCV files in my

I have two JCV files in my system folder. one is 26megs and the other is 46 megs. Do I need to rename both?

You

You should never have 2 JCV files on your system. Each map update will come with a new JCV file and that file will only work with the map update it came with.

So, one of those JCV files isn't required at all and if you have downloaded the large 700+MB file you don't need the other file either.

If you haven't downloaded the large file, then one of those 2 JCV files you have on your Nuvi will be the one you need for the maps you have installed and the other one isn't needed at all. Without the file names of your 2 files and the map version your using we wouldn't be able to tell which one you can delete and which one you would need to rename or delete.

Thanks for the quick answer.

Thanks for the quick answer. I have 2013.40 (I think that was the version of the maps). I did download the the large version of the JCV and put it on my sd card. I renamed both of the JCV files in my system directory. Tested it out today and I did see a junction view on one of my trips today so I assume it must be working correctly.

I guess now I can delete both of the JCV files in my system folder on the Garmin. The 26meg version must be the one that was installed with the latest maps because the date matched when I got Garmin express and installed the latest maps. I was unable to install the latest maps before Garmin Express due to lack of memory errors.

Good to know. Thanks.

2014.20 large jcv did not work on my 50LM... Help !!...

Hi,

New owner of Nuvi 50LM here as of 9-24-2013 and am seeking some assistance with the JCV file. New 50LM came with 2013.10 map and when I hooked it up to PC, via Garmin Express, it detected a newer map and downloaded it along with other software updates..

However, the included 2014.20 jcv file is not a "photo-Realistic" jcv file. The smaller jcv file in .System\JCV\ file is called, D3479090A.JCV and is only 109,187 KB only.

The 2014.20 version of the jcv was a larger jcv file and is called, D3060110A.jcv and is 798,554 KB. I saved this large jcv file in my SD card under Garmin\JCV\. I know how to do this from having to update quarterly map updates on my other Nuvi 1490LMT which I have been updating for a while.

My questions is, my new Nuvi 50LM (will be given to my son) uses a 1/2 screen for viewing jcv file, but the larger 798KB jcv file is for a FULL SCREEN JCV. I tried this on 50LM and it does not work. When the "Junction View" is to be shown, the screen displays "BLANK". I am wondering if there is a SEPARATE file of a larger JCV file for Nuvis that uses a smaller screen. Or is there a different way to activate the jcv file residing in the SD card...

Thank you for anticipated assistances from the POI community.

europe?

Is Garmin posting the large JCV file for the Europe map? I can't find it...

Large File

Worked great on my 1450.

Thanks

2014.40

what version of JCV file go for the full screen and the split screen with this new map version 2014.40? and I like to know where I can find it?

The 2014.40 full-screen JCV

The 2014.40 full-screen JCV should have a file name of D3060140A.JCV. It is the only JCV file that - as far as I know - Garmin makes available for direct download. Legally, there is no way to download the split-screen JCV file directly as Garmin does not make the file available on its servers but requires the end user to update the map, which also updates the JCV file on the device.
