position.gpi

While loading POI's using POILoader, it failed due to an 'unexpected error'. I started copying files to backup (in case!) then discovered a position.gpi file in the same folder as my current.gpi.

After a few tries, my POI's loaded correctly, and the position.gpi file disappeared.

Wonder what it was?

I have the view set to include all hidden & system files.

.

It's a GPX file that saves the positional coordinates when the device is powered on and removed from the cradle. It's mainly used by the GPS to take you back to your car...or where you took the GPS out of the cradle.

Yes. Beware that the unit will not register said location if the unit is switched off before it is removed from the cradle.

And evidently not all units have it

Took me a while to find it on Garmin but they call it Garmin Locate.

Quote:

Garmin Locate is a feature included on some of our automotive devices which will automatically mark the last position to help you find your way back to your vehicle.

To mark your last position on all devices with this feature, simply remove the device from the automotive mount. The device must be powered on and must have satellite signal to mark the last position. After removing the device from the automotive mount, you may power it off. You may then have the device route you back to the last position, if desired.
