Collier County, Naples FL to remove all red light cameras Feb 18th, 2013

A bit of great news regarding red light cameras in Southwest Florida Naples Region. Collier currently has cameras at 19 approaches and 10 intersections throughout the Naples area.

The county monitors left turn and straight movements, but not right turns. In 2012, ATS issued 10,834 violations, an average of 903 per month.

However, following an often heated debate, County Commissioners voted to end the contract with American Traffic Solutions on February 28th.

All of the cameras are scheduled to be removed at that time.

I suspect that Collier found out as many other municipalities that the bulk of any profit goes to the camera company and in many cases the county pays out more than it takes in. This is because ATS bills the municipality for each ticket regardless whether the violator actually answers the summons and pays up.

Warning: Politics having a life at its own, this is only an advisory. I will report later if and when the cameras actually come down.

Thanks for the note. I have these on the calendar to remove at the end of the month.
