nuvi 1490: Tools->Settings->Proximity Points

I've loaded 2 POI files and I can set the new POI's as a destination. However, when I following the Tools->Settings directions there is no Proximity Points item to choose. I scroll to the bottom of Settings and the last one is Bluetooth with a blank spot to its right.

Sure would appreicate it if someone could tell me how to fix this.

Thanks!
David

Points

You need an associated wave file for the proximity icon to show.

Ah... I used an mp3 file.

Ah... I used an mp3 file. Thanks, I'll try the .wav file.

I removed the previous poi

I removed the previous poi files and reloaded using a wav file. Still no Proximity Points icon. I have the subway poi (that's what I'm loading) on my old nuvi 255W and it works just fine (has the Proxmimity Points icon). I also tried loading it without any extra sound file hoping for the default sound to enable the Proximity Points icon. That failed as well. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

.

Have you set the distance in POI Loader? Or, have you tried making it a TourGuide poi?

I've haven't tried either of

I've haven't tried either of those. I'll check the faq to see how to do that.

The FAQ has it all in pretty

The FAQ has it all in pretty easy to follow steps.

I copied all the files under

I copied all the files under the POI directory from my old nuvi 255W to my new nuvi1490. Ta Da! It works! There's a subdirectory (DDB) that was under POI on the 255W that wasn't on the new 1490, and only one file is in that folder: RDS_LBA.ddb I have no idea what that is, but I may try removing it from the 1490 to see if it makes any difference. I tried following the straight forward instructions (just as I did for the old 255W years ago) but it didn't work for the 1490.

sox.exe

Wave files need the sox program installed.

I tried

I tried following the directions and even tried making my own wav file. I tested it and it sounded fine. I put it in the same directory with the same name as the downloaded POI file. It appeared to load on the 1490 just fine. But there was still no Proximity Points icon. So far the only way I've gotten that icon on the 1490 is by copying the files from the old 255W. I must have done something wrong this time but I sure can't figure out what. Thanks for the help even though I can't make it work other than copying what I did years ago. There's a short between the floor and the keyboard... me!

re: Ads

So that's why I wasn't seeing any ads on the new 1490. That file wasn't there. Thanks!

Did you SET an alert when you loaded the Custom POIs to the unit?

Setting an Alert

No, I thought it would default. I'll have to read more to see how to do that.

Setting An Alert

See the Setting Up Simple Alerts section of the Cusom POI Alerts & TourGuides FAQ:
