New Nuvi50 question (lower left looks like a paper airplane)

I have just recently purchased a Nuvi50 and put my old Streetpilot C330 out to pasture. Before I did, I ran BOTH units to be sure the 50 was gonna route me as the 330 did. I have pretty mucvh figured out how the Nuvi works, but one thing still eludes me. just above the lower left hand corner is what appears to be either a paper airplane, or a Stealth fighter. It points to allo directions, but I can not figure out whether it is pointing to Origin or Destination. It seems to be neither. Anyone have any ideas what this thing is?

Thanks
WILL

The Back button

Here is a video of the Nuvi 30, 40, 50 series. Is that lower left button what you're referring to?

If so, this is the Back button. It's not a directional arrow or course indicator. It's used to leave the navigation screen and return to the main menu or to go back one screen from where ever you are in the Nuvi's menus. If you're deep in the menus, you can also hold it down to jump back to the main menu.

3D, 2D, TrackUp?

If what's being asked isn't the "Back" button, what sort of map display are you using? Most of us use 3D. But I think it's possible that if selecting TrackUp (not 3D and not NorthUp), there may be a compass that appears on the map that probably looks like a paper airplane. Could the OP be seeing a compass because they've chosen the TrackUp map display? If so, the "airplane" points towards North.

Track Up

Ah, I see now! Looks like wcsykes is in Track Up mode and the paper airplane is the North indicator. Nice catch, Craig.

3D

I did not know that.
The paper airplane appears when in the "Browse Map" function also on some models.
