Custom audio and alert tone possible for redlight cameras?

Once upon a time I used to have the custom wav file playing right after a double-tone ring alerting me to a redlight camera but it has not done it for a while. Any clues on how I can set it up like that rather then just having the wav file play?

You may have upgraded POI Loader and it's now in a different folder on your computer. If you find two, one will have SOX, the one you are using won't. Put SOX.EXE into the folder the shortcut references.

make sure sox.exe is in the POIloader.exe folder (yes it changed at some point).

then all you need is .WAV files with same name as the name of .CSV with Redlight cameras (or others) to trigger it at proximity.

I have successfully made my Red Light alert WAV sound long time ago, I believe I used a free online voice synthesizer with a nice female voice (accents and languages up to you) speaking those alerts to my pleasure and caution wink

just record it as it speaks (e.g. with Windows Sound Recorder set to speaker source) and then edit the file with Audacity (google it) or something similar and save in WAV format. there was a catch with format, but by looking at my file all it needs is MONO 44100KHz.

Text to Speech

This is the one I used and it works great for text to speech and creating a file..

Perhaps not making myself

Perhaps not making myself clear. It is playing the wav file but it also used to play an alert tone twice before playing the wav file. It's the alert tone that is missing now.

Alert Tone

The alert tone is the default. When a .wav file is loaded the alert tone is not supposed to work. If you had both at one time that wasn't right.

this worked on your 255W?

You stated you had both. Was it on the 255 or a different unit?

One way to accomplish this is to load two files, one setup for the custom audio, the other not. (The second file would have to have a different name.)

Two files

Could this be possible because of the different versions of POI Loader? The old version loads the file poi.gpi in the nuvi. The new version loads using a different filename, xxx.gpi, whatever you name it.

If both of these .gpi files exist in the nuvi they could have been loaded from different red light camera files of the same filename. The old one had no audio file associated with it and the new one has the audio. If you approach a location with a POI in both files, you would get the alert tone AND the audio.

Frosty, to answer your original question, you can duplicate this loading process. First, run POI Loader just to remove all POI files.

Then run it a second time using the red light camera file without the associated audio file. In the latest POI Loader there is a field where you can choose the name of the .gpi file to be loaded into the nuvi. For instance, name it without.gpi

Then run POI Loader a third time with the audio file. This time choose a different name for the .gpi file, such as with.gpi

This should provide both the alert tone and the audio.

I would agree with that. I remember with my 765T when i first came here and installed my first red light camera files, I did not do the mp3 or bmp file. I think? I remember getting this ding sound. The 255w goes back to 2008. The 765 series was released back then also, maybe ask juggernaut how his works.

No need to run multiple iterations of POI Loader. Just have 2 copies of the RLC and Speed Camera files in the folder you normally load. One set of files is associated with the audio/icon, the other isn't because its name is different.

Look at Motorcycle Mama's FAQ on this. She is always very clear.

I think all your nuvis use .wav sound files and not .mp3

Here's a link with the details you'll need:

Your nuvi requires wav audio files and therefore needs the sox.exe file as described.
