Garmin nivi 855 screen recalibration

I just got my new Garmin nuvi 855 delivered from Amazon. Upon powering up immediately saw a dead pixel. While it did not bother me much I wanted to recalibrate the display.

Couldn't find it under Settings->Display or Settings->System. Can anyone help me find it.

Slide power key to left and

Slide power key to left and hold for 8 seconds. Release power key. Hold finger on screen for about 30 seconds and the calibration screen should come up. See page 53 of owners manual.

A recalibration of the screen is for the touchpad. It will have no effect on removing a dead pixel.

Yes indeedy. And for the new owner of a nuvi, note that the Owners Manual is not the Quick Start manual that came in the box with the GPS but needs to be gotten online. Download and keep the full owners manual for your 855 for future reference from here:

Dead, or stuck?

Try using a soft microfibre cloth, and gently rubbing the area of the pixel with a little pressure. I've had it happen on my monitor, and that's what I did. It worked.

855 dead pixel

Is it a dead pixel or stuck pixel (always on)? My 855 often (but not always) boots up with as stuck red pixel. I can usually unstick it using the rub method (firmly rub the spot where the stuck pixel is.

Thanks for all the feedback. I was able to successfully calibrate the 855 screen. Now its time to upgrade to the 2011 maps. Curretly it has 2010.10 maps.

@alandb It is a dead pixel and not stuck pixel. Tried rubbing it but no go.

I have a 650 and it works great. If I needed one, I would definetly buy. The specs on it are fantastic.
