Feature not available message

I was driving on the Long Island Expressway when my 765t dinged and a message flashed on the screen, "That feature not available", and it had to be selected to remove the message from the screen.. Anyone ever have that message pop up, or know what caused it.. The only poi file I was using was the red light camera csv from this site.. Wierd, never happened before..

Strange.

That is a strange one. It almost sounds like the fiasco the 7x5 series had when they were still pretty new (2 or 3 years ago; 2009?) when they bricked for no reason. If I remember, the prompt back then was something like "Update required". They would then shut down and would not turn back on. It happened to everyone on the same date. It created a big mess for Garmin because customers had to send their dead units in to be repaired and returned all at Garmin's cost. Garmin never really explained what caused it, but it was fixed with firmware (not a hardware problem). Customers (like me) who were lucky enough to not brick their 7x5 on that day were able to just update the firmware and avoid the problem.

.

If the red light Camera files normally alert you, then it has to be something else in your custom poi's. Go through them with poi loader again.

I Never Saw That Message

May be more trouble than it's worth but you may try this if it is in fact related to the Redlight POI.
There have been times when I get a Redlight alert while travelling on a highway and I go under an overpass that has a Redlight camera above, it's an annoyance I've come to accept. This possibly can be the cause of the error message if something in the Redlight file is not correct.

First do you recall between what exits of the LIE you were on when the message appeared?
To check if it is the Redlight POI causing it simply rename the Redight POI on the unit to Redlight.OLDGPI, this will disable it. If you don't get the message again while traveling that route one could assume the Redlight POI was the culprit.

You can then open up the original Redlight .csv file in Microsoft Excel and look for the entry for a Redlight Camera in that vacinity of the LIE and delete it. Then create a new POI.

You did indicate that you only have the Redlight POI.
By any chance do you also have the RestArea POI?
The RestArea POI has ony two entries for the LIE, both at the same location, one Eastbound, the other Westbound. They are between Deer Park Ave (231) and the Sagtikos Parkway.

Another possibility...

...is that his traffic receiver couldn't receive the signal from the source.

Good Point

That suggestion never crossed my mind.

Might be

That makes a lot of sense.. I'm going to use a non traffic receiver and test it, the try and duplicate the message with the traffic receiver connected..

Use Battery Power To Test

Or you could simply run on battery power without a 12 volt charger when nearing the problem area.

Battery Power?

Figured it out..

I drove by the location again and the message appeared.. Then disconnected the traffic receiver and drove by the area again, no popup. Connected the power cord and up poped the message.. So it is related to the traffic receiver in the power cord.. Just incase you were wondering..

Thanks for letting us know
