Installing the NT 2013.30 update today, using the Garmin website. After downloading the maps to my desktop, I then noticed the following:
Nuvi 1490T w/ 4 meg microSD card
Map Updater sees the unit, displays a message saying part of the update will be placed on SD card, and proceeds to complete installation.
Nuvi 260 w/ 2 mem SD card
Map Updater sees the unit, then says the maps are too large to install on unit, and says nothing about the SD card.
Trying progressingly smaller options, it finally offers to install EAST region on nuvi, then does.
I then had to use MapInstall to manually select all the western maps, and install them directly to SD card.
Why the different methods?

Why?
Why Garmin has different methods may be related to the latest firmware of the various models and whether the firmware allows SD installation automatically...or something else. We may never know why Garmin only allows auto SD installations on certain series.
But why you see the results you did can be explained:

See the above link's Footnote 2
Your 1490T is a nuvi 1400 series; therefore it'll be offered the SD installation.
Your 260 is 200 series (not a 205 series) and the 200 series will currently not be given the auto SD installation.
Note: 2GB is just barely capable of installing the current map so for future use, you may want to look towards a 4GB card.
Thank you, that explains it
Thank you, that explains it concisely
