Garmin Nuvi350 power from car problems

I'm having trouble getting power from my car's cigarette lighter receptacle. If I can't power my Nuvi350 via the car, the Nuvi350 won't be much help on long trips.

Like always, the red light on my Garmin Nuvi350 auto power cord lights up when I insert the plug into the car, but my Nuvi350 no longer is getting recharged via the auto power cord.

The connection at my Nuvi350 may be the problem. The male and/or female connector could be dirty (we've been using the power connector for several years), the angled male connector may have been bent too often, I'm not sure what the problem is. Has anyone experienced this? If so, what solution do you suggest.

try

Charging it with a standard USB connector. If the unit charges, it's the cord so get a new one. If the unit doesn't charge, it's the unit. Get a new unit as the repair would be more than a replacement.

I ordered a replacement car charger.

I ordered a replacement car charger over the internet. From the photo on the internet, I thought I was getting a more modern car charger that looked like the one I had (Garmin NUVI 260 Car Charger PN- 320-00239-22,10r-026099 e 9). Instead, I received

Original CLA05D-050C 5V 1A mini-USB Car Charger for Garmin GPS - 02357A

I did not buy the car charger from aliexpress.com, but you can see some detailed photos of the car charger I received at

http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Original-Garmin-CLA05D-050C-5...

Does anyone know anything about this charger? It looks like an old model. Was this charger made 10+ years ago? Will it work with my Nuvi 350?

Consider buying one you know is right

The Garmin part number you want is 010-10935-00. You can buy them from all over the internet for about $40-50. I'm not sure where you got the part number(s) that you cite, buy for a Nuvi 350 the part number above is correct

12-volt vehicle power cable

Thanks for the reply, Phil. That 010-10935-00 kit at https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=8125 includes a Vehicle Suction Cup Mount in addition to the12-volt vehicle power cable.

The 320-00239-22 Garmin part number was from the 12-volt vehicle power cable that came with my purchase of the Nuvi 350. The CLA05D-050C part number is from the 12-volt vehicle power cable that I just purchased.

I'm thinking the CLA05D-050C part was one of the first power cables Garmin released, so I'm wondering just how old the CLA05D-050C power cables might be. If anyone has an idea, please post.

USB Charger

I used to have a Nuvi 350 and the universal USB charger and supplied USB cable and it works fine - make sure it is rated for 5V 1A or 1000ma as some listings may appear. The Scosche brand units work fine - I use them currently on other devices needing this amount of supply current.

Garmin Nuvi 350 Power From Car Problems

Is this powered directly to the Nuvi 350 or is it in a cradle charging unit?

Cigarette Lighter

Be very careful using a lighter socket as opposed to a power socket. if you have the plug rotated the wrong way you can short circuit the lighter socket and blow a fuse. what you are plugging in has 2 small pieces of metal on the side that are grounded as soon as the plug starts in the socket. the cig lighter socket has a "U" shaped piece in the bottom that is 12 Volt (+) plus. if the ground on your plug touches that "U" it will blow the fuse , then it is dead till you replace the fuse...hope this helps

One More Comment

one more thing to concider , those lighter sockets do get rusty over time and have to be replaced...both lighter and socket

Thanks

Thanks for the part number, haven't needed to replace the car charger yet.

sometimes the ground springs

sometimes the ground springs are out to far, try bending them in a little.
