PIN issue with 1450

Folks,

I just purchased a 1450LMT and notice that it does not anonymize my PIN when I enter it. I am on the latest software version (6.10). When I enter my PIN - the entered numbers show for about 2 seconds before they turn into "****". It looks like it does want to make them "*"s but the delay is so long that the whole PIN is visible for a bit - obviously a problem. Garmin Support has not been of much help yet.

I am wondering if anyone else with a 1450 or 1490 have the same issue or if it just this one unit I have.

Any advice appreciated.

.

Are you worried that someone is looking over your shoulder when you are entering the security code? Really?

My 1450 does the same, I

My 1450 does the same, I just key it in anyway

It is what it is. I sincerely doubt that Garmin would "correct" it in the future. Why won't they?

1. The unit is an older unit
2. If they "corrected" the 14xx series, they'd have to "correct" all of the series that support GarminLock
3. Part of the delay is likely there so that you, yourself can see the PIN...how likely is it that someone around you will actually see it for the brief time it's displayed?
4. The delay you're seeing could simply be caused by a slow processor (which the 14xx series does have). On bootup, nearly all nuvis (or at least all that I own including the 34xx) are slow/sluggish at bootup since they are loading system files into memory, loading/verifying maps, etc. Slowness is to be expected with the unit in these cases.
4. GarminLock is no longer a feature on the newer nuvi models. Maybe it was more trouble than it was worth with people forgetting PINs and having to send units back to get unlocked. I personally never used it myself nor found it useful (not to say that others did not).

Just enter your PIN as you've been entering it since there's likely nothing users can do about it. cool

Same as my 1450LMT

@sam_i_am,

I turned on my 1450LMT's Garmin Lock to test it out and it works the same as you describe. So it appears that is the norm for this unit.

Mine has the latest maps and FW installed.

The 1450 is also known for being very slow at accepting typing when trying to search your POIs, 2-3 seconds between accepting keystrokes. Though it does a few things too slow for the normal user the unit does run very well. I have the full 2013.20 maps on the SD card and the manufacturer's POIs and my Custom POIs all in the GPS internal memory. No change noticed in its operating speed with this setup.

Thanks

Thanks, folks. Garmin Support also confirmed that this is normal behavior now and that they've dropped the feature in the latest devices. It must be me, but I liked having the PIN anonymous. Thanks for the responses!
