Car antena

Wondering if I could get some thoughts on an external antena for the car. I have a Nuvi 350 and it seems to do well but any thoughts on the extra antena?

Car antennas

I bought an external antenna for my C330. After using it for a couple of weeks, I really baven't noticed much difference in obtaining signals. I have used it in both local and long distance trips. Some users see faster response times finding signals, so the only thing I can tell you is to try one, it can't hurt, and who knows, it might work well for you.

Not doing anything worth a darn.

I have an external antenna

I have an external antenna (dash mounted) and the accuracy went from 15' to 9', sometimes 6'!

Antenna

If the receiver in the 350 is the same as in the 660 (pretty sure it), I don't really see the need for an external antenna. The SiRFIII chipsets are very sensitive (much more so than the Garmin units I have used without the SirFIII chipset).
I wouldn't want to deal with the extra cord for just a few feet of accuracy. For me, 15'-20' accuracy is fine for driving.

If your signal is wack buy an antenna.

I just received my external antenna, and wow. Immediate signal. I think that my Nuvi's internal antenna is broken, but don't have time for exchange, since I'm leaving for vacation within a few weeks.

But for real, the antenna boost the signal.

Don't Like Flip-Antenna

That is one thing I do not like about the Nuvi. To turn the receiver on, you HAVE to flip up the antenna. I wonder how many "Flips" it will take before something breaks.
I have a SiRFIII bluetooth GPS reciver that looks like a small pager, the antenna is a patch antenna built into the case. That thing gets excellent reception in my house, in the cubby hole of my dash, in my pocket, almost on the floor of my truck by the 4WD shifter, it doesn't need a clear view of the sky. I would think that even if the anteanna of the Nuvi isn't flipped up, that it would still get reception.

Rob, my sentiments exactly. My nuvi 660 worked well for 6 months and then it would lose satellite reception while I was driving through a residential area, only to regain reception a short time later. In the following days it would not acquire satellites at all. Garmin simply gave me another unit. It would seem likely that with all the flipping up and down of the antenna that sooner or later something will break. IMHO the antenna is the nuvis Achilles Heel.
