Actually

Actually, the 2 guys at the end of the line are only there because they want to be first in line for the iPhone 6. mrgreen

Long lines

The line at our local store is not that long, but they seldom have enough i-stuff for everyone on the first day. The first guy in line said he was offered $200 for his spot.

kind of makes you wonder where they get the money?

I saw on the news last night that in New York they were interviewing some of the people that were in line. Some of the guys in line said that they had been there for a week already.

Obviously they do not have a job if they have been able to remain in line there for a week but kind of makes you wonder where they get the money to buy the new phone? question wink

Are they part of the 99%?

I know the 1% is too busy earning money.

These are professional line people, they stand in line for anything being a Batman movie or a Nintendo; just remember people also stood in line in Guyana to drink the Kool-Aid.

All that expense just to have the iphone a few weeks before everyone else...

.

It's not to have the iphone a few weeks before everyone else. It's to have the bragging rights and sit atop the apple sheeple pedestal.

One Way To Make Some Extra Cash....

Professional line people.... get in line early, camp out, do whatever. Wait for someone to offer you cash for your spot.

On the news here a reporter talked to some people who had been waiting in line for several days. A couple said they were offered $500 for their spot in line.

I guess if you don't have a job or anything else to do....

It looks like the seller relisted the phone for whatever reason. My guess is the winning bidder just bid for the heck of it. There was no intention to buy.

I went to Apple store on Sunday to check out the new iPhone. It was crowded but there was no line. I don't understand why some would want to wait in line for several days.

For sure

That video is a real hoot - and I recognize some of those people. (Not physically, but the behavior is identical. One of them is one of my nephews.)

True story - when my daughter was in college, she knew the guy who subsequently became head of marketing for Apple. His major was Religious Studies.

You can tell your friends about how you stood in line for several days, how awesome it was, and whatever else comes along with spending two or three days of your life pretty much waiting. Some will think you're cool. Some will think you wasted two or three days of your life by being a moron. If someone somehow gets pleasure out of the waiting, then they're welcome to it. I'm happy to live vicariously through the 15 second news reports about them.

Long lines..

The last time I was in a long line was on the NYS Thruway on my way to Woodstock.

On line for a phone...don't think so and I am Apple fan for decades....

IPhone 5 Fever? Don’t Count Samsung Out

Samsung Phones are rugged

I have had several (6) Samsung phones over the past few years and what I like about them is they are rugged and take a lot of abuse. I always felt that Motorola phones were the gold standard in this respect, but the Samsung phones I have had equal or surpass the Motos.

If Samsung would just step it up a bit on the points mentioned in the article (such as fitting a -metal- back and rim on the Galaxy) it would be a near-perfect phone. I have picked up and used this phone several times and it lacks the heavy "built" feel of my other Samsung phones.

lol... you are right

The iphone 5 is here the lines are big... gives you time for them to release the iphone 6 and be on time.

What fits your needs?

I know that people have their likes and dislikes and I respect their choices whether it's using a flip-phone or a non-Apple smartphone.

I bought the Iphone 5 and I love the processor speed and screen clarity. Read the reviews and you will see that Apple has done it again with processing power and screen resolution. The latest reviews have compared the Samsung S3, HTC One X and others against the IPhone 5 and the IPhone has succeeded once more.
I know that the IPhone doesn't have the "biggest" screen but it's called hand ergonomics. Steve Jobs wanted people to be able to use their thumbs on one hand to navigate the entire screen.
Until something "different" comes out heres to your freedom to make personal choices.

crazy people looking for 10

I'm not waiting in line....

There is no way I would wait in line that long for a phone. Funny thing is I waited 6 hours in line to ride the Radiator Springs Racers at Disney's California Adventure on Opening Day, go figure.

People like to show off

People like to show off their stuffs for strangers that do not care what they have.

I never understood waiting in line

I have never understood what drives people with a perfectly good iPhone 3/4/4s to wait in line for hours or CAMP OUT OVERNIGHT for the next generation. The motivation must be 99.99% bragging rights or showing off. Let's face it, by mid-October/early November you'll be able to walk into anyplace that has them and get the iP5 off the shelf. I always thought the smart people were the ones who picked up the latest generation at the end of its product cycle: no lines, it's discounted in anticipation of the next one, and probably no contract commitment from the carrier.

Has to be the "Kool-Aid" effect that drives it.

You have to realize that

You have to realize that most of the people in line are being paid to be there. Companies that want to sell the IPhone for huge profits pay employees to stand in line, there are services that you pay to hold your spot in line, plus there are advertisers that pay for you to be in line to advertise their products. So you see that only a few early campers are regular people.

Cyberian75 wrote:

I do too because I feel they provide "more-bang-for-the buck." But I have to admit, the iPhone series have a certain "Je ne sais quoi". You pick it up and it feels good. You scroll through the menus, it seems to automatically follow your cue. Like Nikon cameras or a vintage Orvis fly rod. Can't explain it, but it's there when you use them. Like someone tried it and used it after the engineers' designed it and the factory made it. Then they sent it back and had them them make all the suggested fixes and little tweaks to make it almost perfect.

50-70% iPhone sold in the state during first month will get export to oversea. People wait in line on first day because they get paid to do it. Their job is waiting in the line at Apple store. People with upgrade or new contract would just order online and get shipped, but 50% of them will sell the phone after they received it anyway.

Woz just wants to do his part to be sure his share of AAPL stays strong. There's no reasonable explanation why a billionaire would want to be the first in line on every iPhone release.

The "incident" in the factory is no doubt a crock. Like the so-called oil platform fires in the middle of the ocean somewhere that boosts the price of oil overnight. The "China Factory" incident is likely another ploy by the slick marketing execs get everyone hyper again about getting a phone just as the initial hoopla dies down. Remember the pre-release "disasters" that were in the news everyday for a month? Not enough processors, shortage of tiny screws, screen shortages, fires-floods, locusts, frogs, brimstone, typhoons. Somehow they got it out on time, and once again ran out in about 15 minutes. Brilliant!

And Woz, after all these years should have enough dough to last for the rest of his life even if Apple stock drops to $0 today. If he doesn't then he deserves to be broke.
