3590LMT AUTO ZOOM

Does the 3590LMT have Auto Zoom. I can't seem to locate it so that I can set it to Auto Zoom.

.

Autozoom should already be enabled (you cannot disable it) if it's a unit set to the United States locale (and some others which I'm unsure of). If you're in a locale other than the US (AU, EU or others which I'm unsure) and the unit is correctly set to that locale, there should be an option to enable/disable autozoom, likely under navigation settings. If you are in the US and want the option to enable/disable autozoom, you can set the locale to AU, EU (done after a hard reset) and then change the units from metric to imperial.

Note that changing the locale changes some other functions of the unit like:

US: Status bar is green and shows the upcoming cross street (when not navigating a route)
AU: Status bar is blue and shows the road you're currently on (when not navigating a route)

US: Traffic provider (if more that one subscription exists on the unit) is auto-selecting
AU: Traffic provider (if more that one subscription exists on the unit) is user-configurable

Yes

Yes, it should be under Tools - Settings - Automotive - Auto Zoom if you have the Locale set for Australia (AU).

The Status Bar on the map screen doesn't change to blue but remains green on my 3790 when set to a locale of AU. The color of the status bar maybe tied to what map is installed, not the locale setting, but I'm just guessing on that. laugh out loud

I believe the status bar is locale specific, however my post above incorrectly states that AU is blue but in reality, I think I've only seen it blue when set to EU...and maybe GB.

How do I

get to the Locale to change it to AU,

You

You have to do a hard reset. When the Nuvi reboots it will ask you, among other things, what country/locale you want to use. Just pick Australia.

Will that

effect the US map that is on the GPS or do I have to download a new map.

.

You do not need a new map...unless you are traveling to the locale that you set the GPS to. If you have a US map and change the locale to any other and remain in the US, there will be no issue. Changing the locale does NOT force the GPS into the selected locale. The GPS knows where it is and if you are in the US, it will remain in the US. As mentioned above, you'll need to set the units from metric to imperial (and other small settings) to get the unit to display units correctly.

this fix makes my 2495lmt behave

Great thread. Changed mine to AU without a hitch. Easy to reset for US: keyboard, voice and distance units. I didn't think about it changing time from 12 hour clock to 24 and that was easy to fix. Big improvement.
