Nuvi 2460LMT Voice Command Disappointment.

Today I discovered what I consider a glitch in the 2460's voice command.

I took a trip to a familiar location about 20 miles from home. GPS was connected but no route selected.

I have the 2460 set to "prompt" when selecting calculation mode. Traffic Trends and EcoRoute are disabled.

Note:Each command below were done from off the road and in a parking lot.

On the trip home I decided to use the voice command to go home, it began calculating and gave directions, there was NO OPTION for Faster Time, Shorter Distance, Less Fuel, Off Road. I thought this was odd, so I stopped the route, then chose Home manually from the Where To screen, the prompt option was available in this mode.

I then stopped route and used voice command again, this time choosing favorites, then selecting home. Once again the prompt was not available and it began calculating.
I stopped the route again and then manually selected Favorites, then home. This method also enabled the prompt mode and let me select how I wanted to go.

Conclusion, voice command has limitations in what it can do as opposed to using the touchscreen.

I was disappointed by using voice command I was not able to choose the optional modes.

Looking around, I found...

Looking around, I found this in the knowledge base.

"Looking around, What voice command prompts are available on my nuvi?

Answer:
The nuvi 800 and 805 series and the nuvi 2460, 2495, 2595, 3490, and 3790 models offer voice activated navigation. These devices allow for certain command prompts to be recognized by the device when the feature has been activated.

The nuvi 800 and 805 series will recognize the following commands:

Any text on the screen
Shortcut commands as detailed in the owner's manual
The name of a popular place
An address
When the voice command feature is activated on the nuvi 2460, 2495, 2595, 3490, and 3790 models, a menu will appear on-screen. These devices will only recognize commands listed on the menu.

For tips on how to best use the voice recognition feature on your device, please review the following article: https://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?caseId={00c3bb20-9ad2-11dd-f60b-000000000000}"

This seems to indicate that voice commands have some limitations.

That's my point, both Favorites and Go Home are on the menu and DO work, but not the way I expected it to by removing the option to select how the route should be calculated. Not the worst thing but certainly something I would have liked.

To make you feel better my 3790 behaves the same way as you described in your first post. grin

Newer But Not Improved

Thanks, I feel better already.

Sometimes I'm not in a hurry and prefer to take the shortest route (usually scenic), can't accomplish this with voice command only by using the touchscreen.

This is why I rarly use voice command, it's more definitive to use the touch screen method.

To each his

own. I use Voice Command mostly when I am driving. I don't need it when I am sitting in my drive-way where I start my trip manually. After that it is smooth sailing down the highway. My wife love to use the Voice Command when looking for places to eat or take a break.

It does have some advantages but I really need to be able to do more than it does.

Would be nice if you could select a custom POI (Extras) by voice, YOU CAN"T.

As for Favorites, it’s also impractical for my needs.
On the 2460LMT, if you choose favorites by voice command you get a menu with 3 lines of locations that are nearest you. You can speak a line # (1-2-3) or the name and it will take you there. Now if you have numerous entries and wish to go to a favorite that is much farther away from your current location, you must keep saying down to get to the next page of 3 entries. I would have hoped you just speak the name of the favorite and it would appear, NOT THE CASE.
