Keeping the Windmill Alive - Your last trip? - June 2012

In danger of losing your windmill?

Maybe you can share with us the last place your GPS took you and if you encountered any problems, or if you use it to seek out special places to go (like Thai Food, ice cream shoppes, etc.) Anything to keep your windmill alive.

This thread will be closed on the last day of the month and a new one will be opened.

3,600 Miles by GPS

My nuvi 2460 LMT inserted a few unscheduled u-turns where not necessary but other than that it seemed to be helpful.

Magellan 5045 Shakedown

Full Moon Bus Club Brew Bus Campout, 3 hours from Atlanta to Lazy J Campground in Rosman NC. The Shakedown cruise for my alternate navigator JoAnn's new Magellan.

VW buses, home brewed beers & a wedding- tie dye attire "required". A good time was had by all.

My first of three CA trips

Finally returned from our first of three trips to CA this year. I now have my grandson here in Iowa.
I found some discrepancies with I saw and what my 1490 showed.
First was as soon as I crossed the border from AZ to NV the traffic came on and stated that there was a 5 minute delay on the interstate while I was doing 80+mph all the way to Los Vegas and drove through at about 65mph. Who ever does the updates must have been asleep.
On the way back I told the GPS to go to home and several times it wanted to send me on a longer route but since I have done this many times I went my way.
On my way home there is a sign Des Moines 60 miles which I doubted because the Garmin said 50 miles so this time I set my trip meter and found that it was exactly 59.8 miles to my house and not the city limits from that sign so the Garmin was right.
For gas through the trip the highest was in CA at $3.69 per gallon and the lowest in NM at $3.19 or "A lot cheaper than last year"

Yosemite -- without my Nuvi!

...but with iPod, with Waze and Google Maps.

Waze works well when it hass cell connectivity to download map tiles. Which is to say it's real spotty once you get near the National Park -- something to do with all those rocks!

Midwest

Quick trip into an area of Chicago I was not familiar with. Always take the GPS and it makes everything so much easier and safer. Actually used the traffic reroute feature for the first time, and have to say it did better than I thought it would.
