Only Millimeters to go

When using the factory's Rest Stop POI file,(i.e.Rest Stop I-81 MM45), the voice on my Garmin says millimeters for MM instead of Mile Marker. I was amused. grin

.

Well, that's one way to reduce carbon footprint. wink

Wait a minute!

When I first read that, I thought "cute."

But in driving past an Interstate rest area today and hearing my custom "Rest Area Ahead" wav file and seeing the alert visual on my screen with the MM235 indicated, I thought back to this thread.

It sounds like you're saying that your nuvi is TTSing the visual alert of MrKenFL's POI file rather than using a standard alert that would be the same for all rest areas.

Just how did you get your nuvi voice to speak the visual alert of a Custom POI?

Is this something the new nuvis do?

Millimeters?

Hmmmm, now how can I get mine to say that? LOL

Regular Voice

I just had a regular voice, in this case Karen the Aussie babe, then set the rest area as a way point.

Quite simple

Just select a Rest Area from your POIs that has MIle Marker info (most interstate RAs do)
and press "GO". When you arrive at RA it will tell youmall the info including the millimeters !

Ah, so I'll get the audio with MM announcements upon arrival if I plan a route to one. Can I assume that if I have a route to somewhere (not a rest area) that just drives past the POI locations, I'll just get my stock "Rest Area Ahead" audio at my alert distance, but no "MM announcement?"

...or am I still befuddled in understanding this?

Righto!

You are correct, sir.

Thank you

Thank you.

Now I just need to figure out when I'd ever plan a route to a rest area. wink

yep

That's exactly the way it works CraigW.
Press "GO" for particular rest area and get the total description in column 3 of csv file format when you get close. You will also get your standard voice alert at your programmed alert distance. However, it will say millimeters for the mile marker distance.

Just drive using another location for a destination and you will just get .wav (or .mp3) voice alert at your prorammed alert distance !

I will sometimes set a particular rest area as a destination when we are planning to stop for a picnic lunch at the RA.

Way Point

When you are out driving on an interstate going TO a destination, select the rest stop as a way point.

Great for some drivers

That'd be great for blind drivers that can't see the info on the GPS display then, right? smile

That be me !

At least she calls me a blind old bat !

I'm anxious

2013.10 has MMs on the Overseas Highway in the Keys. It will be interesting if they are helpful. Many businesses include the MM in their address. IE. MM49Gulf

Betty White

Ever see Betty White's new TV series? A group of elderly people pull pranks on young people. They did one where a seemingly blind driver drives onto a boardwalk using a talking GPS, gets out, then asks for directions to the pier. Funny!

Interesting

I was just looking at this voice file using TTSEditor, and the word millimeter was not listed.

I wonder where it came from?
