Replacing my nuvi 660 with a nuvi 2555, having a hard time loading my POI files on my new 255. Message "no devices were found". Next measage is "You may also need to set the interface option on your GPS to Garmin or Host". Haven't had this problem with my 660, what's going on.
Are you using the USB cable that came with the new unit and is it plugged directly into the computer and not a USB hub?
Does the unit go into PC mode or show the normal operation screen? If it doesn't go into the PC mode the computer will not be able to see it or access the memory.
As rjrsw asks, does the computer see the nuvi as a removable drive on your PC or not? My guess is that your computer doesn't see the nuvi which means POI Loader, WebUpdater, MyGarmin, etc. won't work until that's resolved.
I'm not up-to-date on these newer models. If it's not a cable or USB port issue, is it possible that the 2555 has the potential to suffer from the "switch MTP to Mass Storage" issue? See jefft186's reply in this thread:
If so, you'll need to go into the diagnostic page of the nuvi and switch it to Mass Storage.
See jefft186's reply in this thread:
That's my guess as to what the problem is.
That is what I did to my 2555, I switched it to mass storage and now I can use the safely remove hardware option to unplug my unit when I am finished. Sometimes when I plug mine in the computer it doesn't recognize it and I have to unplug and plug it back in.
The USB plug must be OK,downloaded the new maps from Garmin. Where do I go to find Mass Storage option.
Thanks guys, going to this thread and following your instructions did the trick. You people are the most helpfull group when I'm in trouble. Thanks soo much for your help.
I have a GPS 2595LMT, I ask Garmin what would happen if I change from MTP mode to Mass Storage Mode. They advise not to do it. If I delete a file by accident the file is lost forever. In MTP mode all the files are protected from being deleted.
If one does a backup upon getting a GPS and then does backups every time some major change is made (maps, firmware), then any file one might accidentally delete can be recovered.
I hope you have made a backup. If not please go to http://www.poi-factory.com/node/30394 and do so.
Thanks guys, going to this thread and following your instructions did the trick...
That's great to hear. Thanks for letting us know it worked for you.
