Proximity Alerts (too fast to read)

I guess the Nuvi 40 doesn't play mp3 files. Bummer. However, whenever I get to a place where I've created an alert, a small box appears for a few milliseconds. Much too fast to read. Is this normal?

Audio alerts

I can't help you with alert timing on screen for that nuvi model but you can add audio alerts using wav files rather than mp3 if that's any help to you:

PS--if you haven't downloaded your Owner's Manual yet, here it is:

wav files

The POILoader software from Garmin will ignore .wav files (it gives me a message that says so.)

Also, none of my proximity alerts work now!! Even the Garmin red light camera alerts. !!!!????

sox.exe?

Make sure sox.exe is (still) in the same folder as POIloader.

Alerts

The reason why my custom alerts was not working is that the coordinates I got from Google had the places farther away than the alert. (i.e. School was 300 ft away, my alert was for 200 ft)

I did not have SOX loaded until now. I'll try it and let you know. Thanks

Garmin Red Light Camera Alerts

However,
Does using custom POI's turn off the Garmin-installed red light camera alerts? Mine no longer seem to work.
