Problem when back up 2450

I posted in another thread but seemed no luck so I created my own thread hope gets more helps from Garmin's users.

When connect the unit to PC, I can see it (drive F). Selected the drive - 3.7 GB. However, I selected all the files only 600 MB.

Disconnected the unit from PC. Turned on - volume button - Diagnostics page. On this page, I see:

First page:

Clear all user data
Shutdown Causes
Developer Info
Developer Tests

Then arrow on second page shows:

Diagnostic Logging
Demo Mode

I don't see MTP Settings like other's

Backups

The fact that your computer sees the nuvi as a drive and can copy files means that you need not worry about MTP settings since it's doing what you need.

It does seem that you're missing some of the files to select for backups.

What you probably need to do on your computer is go to Control Panel, Folder Options [View], then change three of the default settings. Make sure that your computer settings are:

-uncheck hide extensions for known file types
-uncheck hide protected operating system files (recommended)
-select show hidden files, folders and drives

Once you've altered these three setting on your PC, connect your nuvi again and see how many more files and folders you have to select for making a backup to your PC.

Thanks CraigW

It works. Now I can see the .system folder.

After finished backing up, should I change the option back on PC or just leave it like that?

Change option back

If all the users of this PC know what they are doing and can deal with possible unintended consequences, leave the settings like that. That is what I do.

To be on the safe side, change them back to the way they were. You can always do these settings again whenever you need to.

To again state what Dobs108 says

If you leave the system files unhidden, then someone that does not know what they are doing can delete some and this will wreck havoc on the OS. So it is your choice if you can trust the users to be careful in what they are doing then you can leave them be.

In the future

In the future, since you know the directory name is .system, you can go to that directory by typing it in the address bar without having to show system files.

It saves me a couple steps the few times I need to look there on my 2450.

I will try this. My grandkids use my computer ever now and then so I change mine back to hide the stuff.

Will find the directory then write it down (old and forgetful) then I won't take the chance of forgetting to change it back to hide.
Thanks
