My original April 2012 "good news, there is a new maintainer" post might have been wishful thinking based on the file info. No progress has been made since then, no correction, and I've been unable to contact jdmarano.

Looks like that this is an orphan POI file with nobody able to take control of it!!!

The new locations I posted should have shown the Wells Fargo "ATM Only" at 41.127321 -85.009827 as a correction to the list, not a new location.

As information, any additions or corrections I make are only to locations I have visited and verified the exact location. The one on the east side of Ft Wayne IN I showed as a delete, was over a mile off from the list posted here. In this case I added a new location at the correct coordinates.

I was not able to contact the moderator either. I will post updates like this.

jdmarano made some good progress with the file; but he hasn't visited the site since April, and he disabled his contact form. So it looks like the file is orphaned again.

If anyone would like to take it over, let me know and I'll move it to your account.

If that is the case, I will give it a shot. I noticed that the file only includes the western part of the US. I have been working on the eastern US and have pretty much completed FL,AL,GA,MS and SC. Presently working on NC and VA.

Although you've got a lot of work ahead. Since they just absorbed Wachovia, I would imagine there will be a lot of closings in the future.

Ok, I have the street address, City, State, and Phone for the updates I posted. How would you like them?

I found it funny while using the Wells Fargo website, that their MS Bing map showed their branch in Danbury CT in the wrong location.

The majority of sites that have a geocode location we find are quite often wrong. That is why we try to be real careful with our locations and also rely on members to give us corrections.

Now that Wells Fargo has bought out Wachovia, can someone update those files and combine the two into one or has that already been done?

If you go back a few posts you will see that Mahoney is working on the file.

Not only can the geocode location be wrong, the business or organization site can be wrong. BoA has some wrong addresses, wrong zip codes and a few locations will not show on the locator map unless you enter the exact address. Many locations on their locator map are way off.

So, one has to be very careful when entering data to the POI file. There is nothing more agravating then to not be able to find the desired location where the GPS says it should be.

I would say that most all (if not all) branch locations have now been converted/closed from the Wachovia acquisition.

In 2011, Wells Fargo had more than 9,000 retail branches and 12,231 automated teller machines in 39 states and the District of Columbia.

I am presently updating this file to the latest listings on the Wells Fargo website. This update will consist of mainly adding the locations in the states that were not included in the old file.
AL,MS,FL,GA,SC,NC,DE,VA,TN,MD,DC,PA,NJ,NY,CT AND OH.

I plan on a cleanup and verification of the original file as time permits. If anyone wants to volunteer for a specific state, let me know. I have completed the update for Alaska and it will be included in the next update.

I'm guessing the original file, being pretty old, will require a lot of cleanup when you get around to it.

The total Branch locations that I presently have in the latest update is only around 5000. The websie now states 6200 stores (branches) , so I guess that the original file is missing approx 1200 locations.

I'd say that's probably correct. But with the original file being so old I don't know how much you can count on it being even 80% correct. The original file will no doubt be helpful to some degree, but I'm sure there are numerous location deletions and additions that will need to be made to even update the original file locations.

This U.S. Bank location directory website says Wells Fargo has 6,392 locations.

I see that Texas alone has 712 locations, which is 11% of the total. And California has 1,063 locations, which is 17% of the total. Get just those two states cleaned up and you've got close to 1/3 of the total locations. However, I'm guessing you might want to add the locations for states where WFC has not had locations before doing clean-up work on locations where WFC has been located for years... Dunno.

Do the total number of locations you've come up with come close to agreeing with what the bank itself says?

I have not been adding the number of ATM's, so I don't know about the 12,000 number. As far as Branches, the listing is about 200 less than what the website stated. I believe that when the remaining parts of the file are checked, the results will be even closer.

does not show up on the Wells Fargo site. Google Earth shows this as a Chase ATM. The Chase website shows the exact address as a Chase ATM.

From what I can tell that branch should be deleted. Wells says nothing there, Chase says yes, Delete from list. Too far out of the way to check when Wells says it's not there.

I think that Wells Fargo took over Wachovia. What I noticed tho, everyone I know of, including me, that banked at Wachovia, moved their account to smaller local banks to avoid the fees. Makes me think WF might go bust in the South Eastern US. Me thinks WF are more for corporate interests than individual.

Wells Fargo go bust in the Southeast - I doubt that seriously. Many people don't want their assets and business matters with small local banks, which may not be able to handle all their needs.

I was with Wachovia for many decades and now with Wells Fargo - I have no added fees. Wells Fargo is one of the stronger banks, one of the most popular banks in the country, and a full-service financial institution.

I have completed the comparison of the file to the listing on the Wells Fargo website. I believe that this is essentially a complete listing at this time. If anyone finds missing locations or corrections that need to be made, please let me know.

Having had relatives work for the co. as well as WF Advisors formerly Wachovia, they are a recipe for financial success. They have the highest market cap of the big 4 banks. They do not waiver on their policy of charging fees, and not waiving them. they also know how to get the maximum work out of their employees. Any visit to glassdoor.com shows that! LOL

If you go back far enough you will find this is also the former Norwest Bank, who took over Wells Fargo. They just decided to use the Wells Fargo name.

Interesting that you believe you have no added fees, PMA account maybe? Check some of the expense ratios more closely.

All kidding aside, when you can charge more, and yet your customers are happy paying, you win. And yes, I do own their stock.

I am a Wealth Management and Trust customer. I became a customer at Wachovia in the late 60s. I have known all Wachovia Bank's CEOs and top executives throughout the years and visited with them often at their headquarters at 4th and Main Streets in Winston-Salem, NC. WFC knows better than to challenge me with stupid little banking fees (that means they waive them for me!!!)...or I'll take my 8-digit assets, brokerage account, etc., etc. elsewhere. They aren't dumb!

Not sure what you are talking about, but I am a customer of Wells Fargo and I travel a lot. I would like to see the POI file for them to be as accurate as possible.
