Need helps from Garmin fellows

I remember there is a software that you can use to change the text on Garmin (that what I did on my Garmin). You can change whatever to make it says what you wanted. Now, I just got a new 5" Garmin and want to restate the 205W back to its original before sell it. However, I can't remember the name of software. Checked through my computer was no helps. IIRC, I download from members here. Any hint would be much appreciated.

Thanks

If you ...

made a backup of the 205W as soon as you got it, you just do the respore from there.

Please make a backup of the new unit RIGHT NOW. See

If I understand correctly

download WebUpdater to update the original voice files

@ jgermann Did GlobeTurtle send you my suggestion concerning exercise 7 ?

Erase password.

How do I erase the password before I sell it. Tried to restore the whole unit but no helps.

Password?

By "password" I assume you are referring to the Garmin lock feature. If so and if your unit works like my 755T, you would go to Tools > Security > Garmin Lock > turn Off.

I'm Curious

I've never used a password on any of my Nuvis, they never leave my possesion.

By going into Garmin Lock and turning it off, will that erase the set password? If you turn it on again will it require you to enter a password again.

I hope this is the case since if only shuts the lock off and doesn't erase the password the new owner who bought it may encounter a problem in the future.
If he/she turns the Garmin Lock on and the old password is still in the unit they won't be able to use it without knowing the password.

Create a generic password

An option you may wish to consider is to change the password to something generic, like 1234. That way they won't get your current password.

Garmin Lock code.

On my 2 units if you turn off the lock code, then later decide to reinstate it, you start from scratch by putting in the lock code you want. It does not automatically retain and reinstate the old one. So I wouldn't worry about it.

In my opinion, the Garmin lock is more trouble than it is worth. I can see why Garmin got rid of it on the new models.

Then New ones dont have that feature..

I am seeing that the New Garmins do not have the lock method anymore.. I could be wrong but everyone that I looked at did not have the feature. I never bothered to use it anyways. If I leave the car, I take it with me. No big thing.

Not an important feature

My StreetPilot always stays with me when traveling, so it isn't an issue for me either. The lock would not prevent the unit from being stolen, only slow down the thief from accessing your Favorites. They could still get them eventually, unless the unit locks itself out completely after several failed attempts to unlock.

Thanks for the explanation indicating by merely turning the Garmin Lock off it erases the password. Have no intention of ever using the feature.
I hope it's not as aggravating as some sites when entering a new password and getting rejected stating that password was used before and to enter a new one.

You could just press "Where To?" / "Go Home". Its quicker than pulling your wallet out. wink

LOL, problem is I don't always have any of my GPS's with me so the wallet is my only other option.

How many times when you get to the car do you question yourself if you locked the house door?

On my unit, even turned off

On my unit, even turned off the lock code, still asked when restarted. I regretted that I used the pw. I am not going to use again on my new one. Hopefully, the new owner wouldn't have the problem smile

One thing about my new unit (2450LM), I have to use the stand in order to use the usb charger. I think it is so inconvenient. Is there a way to use without the stand?

On the 255W, I attached the velcro tape in the back of unit and my car. Like it that way with my 2450
