Best Nuvi

What is the best new Nuvi out there right now ?

Best?

Best is very subjective. I have the 2450 and it does everything I need it to do, so it is the best for me.

What do you want out of a GPS?

On Garmin's site, they have a pretty good website that lets you pick the features you are interested in and it will narrow the list down for you.

best Nuvi

right now I have a 885 but no traffic (thanks msn)

I have the 660, 760, 1490,

I have the 660, 760, 1490, and now have the 2460. I love the larger 5" screens of the 1490 and the 2460. Once you go to a larger screen, you won't want to use a 4.3" screen again as it looks so small. I had a few problems with the 1490 and its bluetooth connection with iphone, phonebook, and intermittent lost voice directions. That was resolved when I found out about the accumulated data puts a strain on the amount of memory that the 1490 has and I reset the database of the ecoroute feature. But now with the 2460, I think that is the best Nuvi so far as it has more memory for more junction views, muted re-calulating alert, voice activation that so far is working very well, bluetooth connection and phonebook to the iphone has connected every time, and has lifetime maps and traffic.

The best one....?

Is the one that fits your needs. For the wife it's the 760, for me it's the 2460.

Possible Solution

I see in your profile you have a Nuvi 660 also. According to Garmin site the 885 uses the GTM20 receiver.

If you still have it and the GTM20 traffic receiver that came with the 660, you can use the GTM20 on the 885T providing you have a traffic subscription on the 660's GTMT20's receiver. They both have the same connection to plug into the cradle. The traffic subscription is part of the receiver and can be used on a compactable unit and work. You will be able to receive the Navteq service with the complimentary advertisement.

I do believe the 660 came with a limited time traffic subscription (90 days?) so you may be out of luck there.

Best is base on your budget

Best is base on your budget and features desired. I own a 3490 and its the best for me.

It also depends

On how many bells and whistles you want I have the 3790 LMT becuase I wanted the 3d Building maps you get, when you use it in major cities. cool

Not really up on the more

Not really up on the more recent versions, but the 760 does everything I want it to do. Has served me well locally, on road trips and three transatlantic trips - including some really cool trip logs of the great circle route over Greenland and a max recorded speed of >600mph! wink

Garmin keeps reinventing the Nuvi

Garmin keeps reinventing the Nuvi - adding more features in the hope that people will upgrade to a newer Nuvi with extra features.

Personally, I think my old 750 is all that I need.

So, for you it will be a compromise between price and features you like.

memory

Oh, I forgot to mention that you are best buying a NUVI with alot of internal memory. Otherwise one may have difficulties upgrading the Maps.

There is another thread which lists the amount of internal memory that each Nuvi model has.

Mine!

The best nüvi is MINE! smile

I love the old 760. It does everything I need and does it pretty darn well. I only wish the FM transmitter in it was more powerful as I end up using it when I drive the older car for work trips. With the new car I can just jack it into an audio output which is far better.

I listen to audio books from audible.com (and some in mp3 format from other sources as well) while I'm traveling for work. None of the new units can do this.

GPSMAP 76CSx - nüvi 760 - nüvi 200 - GPSMAP 78S

depends

For me, routing is important and many of the Nuvi's don't do that. So, I'm happy with my 855. I would like better options for automatic routing - the choices fastest or shortest are generally neither optimum for what I like which is more of a blend between the two.

Does the traffic service subscription comes with adapter or Nuvi device itself?
I thought it is Nuvi device.

no, it's the device

It's the device - as in the traffic receiver that is part of the power cord. The same model cord will often power many different nuvi models. I have a GTM-20 on my 885. It's the same receiver used on the 765 series.

I am currently using the 885T and the 2460 LMT but I believe I prefer the 2460. It has as many bels and whistles, except the mp3 player and removable battery but has a few things like predictive traffic, which I like.

I'm Looking At...

Nuvi 2595, for features more or less in order of importance to me:

Lifetime maps & traffic, exit services (about time, Garmin!) lane assist, voice nav, dual orientation, bigass screen.

(if I'm feelin' poor, the 2495 has the same feature set and 4.3" screen, but hey it's only $20 more expensive- chump change.)

Features my Garmin 750 has that I'll miss: MP3 player, audio output jack, FM transmitter- (not so much) and powered mount.

Best nuvi

My 1st nuvi was from ebay - a cheapo refurbished 750 that the wife bought in 2009 to hopefully stop my complaining when she couldn't read the map and/or directions in time to make a turn.
This 750 was a winner with both of us and we are now at peace.
The 750 has an MP3 player and SD expansion card, plus an FM transmitter. These were bonus features that allowed us to listen to music & gratis audio books from our local Library. The GPS interrupts the audio whenever directions from the GPS are warranted.
The 'wireless' FM transmitter is a nuisance when nearby stations appear and interfere. When this happens I resort to using the GPS speaker and it's low volume
We spent a bundle to do a one-time map upgrade.
And, now the battery won't hold a charge.
So, this past Black Friday I splurged on a new GPS, a Tom-Tom with lifetime maps, in hopes that it would play thru my new car's Bluetooth feature. It turns out it won't work that way and only pairs with my Bluetooth mobile phone.
Since my car already pairs with my mobile phone and the Tom-Tom interface was quite different from my Garmin, I returned the Tom-Tom and bought a Garmin 1350LMT with lifetime maps and traffic at the same price point.
The 1350 GPS interface is very close to the 750 and the 1350 is quicker at loading maps and finding the GPS satellites. I miss the MP3 and SD card expansion and won't miss the FM transmitter.
Now I have a GPS with a fresh battery and plenty of volume.

P.S. I replaced the 750 battery (~$23 on-line) and gave it to the wife to replace her little 250, which did not announce street names. The 250 will go to our 'direction-challenged' daughter to help her navigate real-time (instead of reading from her notebook full of crib notes).

I have a 265WT. It works

I have a 265WT. It works great for me. I just upgraded the maps and wish I could update the POI. Any suggestions?

Any Nuvi is the best. Garmin makes a great product and the technology that makes this possible is humbling.

1350 Has SD Card

KA2X wrote:

You say you miss the SD card? The 1350 has one, it holds a micro SD card so perhaps you didn't see the smaller slot. It's located near the top left hand corner when your facing the screen.

Download the owners manual here:
http://support.garmin.com/support/manuals/manuals.htm?partNo...

I use micro sd cards on my units. They make an inexpensive SD card adapter that you can insert the micro card into and it becomes a standard SD card.
You can use the same micro SD card in the adapter and put it in your Nuvi 750, or take it out of the adapter and put it in the 1350.

Minus the 660, you and I have the same ones. Good units

the one with you

The one in your car, not the one you forgot at home because you don't keep it in the car at all times.
