Compatibility of Traffic receiver on my nuvi

I love the fact that the suction mount USB powers the nuvi's now, so I no longer have to unplug to take the unit on and off the mount.

My question is whether I can buy another car charger/traffic receiver that will allow me transport the gps in another vehicle. Or, would I have to buy another garmin one?

Which nuvi?

Your nuvi 250w doesn't have traffic so which nuvi are you referring to?

I doubt that anyone other than Garmin makes a charger/traffic receiver that's compatible with any traffic-enabled nuvis.

If the price of a new traffic receiver is more than you want to pay for a 2nd charger/receiver, look for a compatible unit on eBay or other site.

Is it a 2350LMT? Then try:

[Also, I suggest updating your POI Factory profile to include the new nuvi wink ]

Not Clear On Your Question

Sorry, I'm confused on what you are asking.

Are you referring to the Nuvi 250W?

You stated
"I love the fact that the suction mount USB powers the nuvi's now"

I am not aware of any Nuvi that has a SUCTION CUP mount where the power cable attaches to. Some have a powered cradle, but the 250W does not.

The owners manual for the 250 shows the vehicle power cable gets attached to the back of the Nuvi, not the suction cup mount or the cradle.

Why would you need to buy another charger\traffic receiver to move the Nuvi to another vehicle.
Just detach your suction cup with cradle and move it to the other vehicle.

yeah you got me on that,

yeah you got me on that, forgot to update my profile to the 2350LMT. I wound up selling the old one, so this one cost me $99!

I will have a look for an additional unit for the new one. Would be nice to keep it in our Van since my Jeep is my everyday machine, and the Van is for family time, ICK! JK...

You're up-to-date now. Well done.

had to update my profile as

had to update my profile as I no longer have the 250W..I should have clarified that the power comes to the cradle not the mount.

I have found that constantly taking a mount off and on a window causes it not be as tacky, and the phone/gps continually winds up falling on the dash.

I would prefer to not have to move it around, so a second unit for a second car would be ideal.

Give This Some Consideration

What about using a Bean Bag Mount.
You can leave it on the Bean Bag and move it quickly to any vehicle, just unplug from cigarette lighter and plug in other vehicle. I use a bean bag on all my units.

No visible glass mount or residue that encourages theft from the suction mounts. The cradle locks on to the ball on the bean bag mount, same ball size as the windshield mount.

Since you mention the word "Jeep"

Since you mention the word Jeep, are you traveling any forest roads, gravel or other bumpy terrain? If so, a permanent mount is good in that it won't be dislodged on rough roads. The ball on this dashboard mount will work with all Garmin nuvi mounts' sockets:

If this looks good, try looking to Amazon or eBay for one at less than MSRP.

GTM 35

What you are asking for is a GTM 35 $70 from Garmin

yup, that is it...stupid me

yup, that is it...stupid me though I must be tired from my kids not sleeping! I don't need to replace the receiver, I just need the mount itself (or if packaged with the suction cup) as that is where the USB plugs into.

no, my Jeep is my work

no, my Jeep is my work vehicle (I am in Sales) so it is more of a Mall Crawler than a Rock Crawler.

I also have a bean bag type

I also have a bean bag type mount for my cell, problem is though if I want to be able to transfer the unit to my Van and want to keep the traffic receiver I need the snap mount to come with me

Bean Bag Transfer Includes Traffic Receiver

I'm not a fan of the mount CraigW gave the link to, it requires it be secured to the dash with an adhesive disk, I don't want any adhesives on my dash.

The Amazon link below is what I have, it holds secure and does not slip. Great of varying dashboard contours. You move the entire unit at once, the cradle with attached GPS and Traffic cable just pops on the ball then into your lighter.

http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-Portable-Friction-Mount-Frustra...

I bought the one linked below from Amazon last year for 15.68, price really went up, shop around for a better deal if possible.
They also make a round bean bag (cheaper) but I wouldn't trust that one for slippage.

looks kind of neat, similar

looks kind of neat, similar to bean bag styles as well and didn't know his suggestion requires a disk to adhere to the dash....as long as it isn't too wide on a dash might be tempting, and nice it takes all the equip on it..

what holds the unit in place on the bottom of it? Looks like it comes with the cradle, but is there a micro usb attachment on it to run the traffic receiver?

Gravity Holds in Place

The bean bag is weighted so there are no adhesives or screws to hold in place. It feels like small rocks are inside the bag. The bottom has a rubbery texture that provides gripping power. The 4 arms are flexible providing grip to almost any surface contour.

As stated above, you micro USB Power\Traffic connection plugs into the cradle USB connector, the cradle attaches to the bean bag by snapping it onto the ball joint on the bean bag, the Nuvi is inserted into the cradle. It's all one portable unit that can be easily moved by merely unplugging from cigarette lighter power plug.

The bean bag can bu used with almost all Garmin units, the ball joint on the unit is the same as any windshield mount. If you replace the Garmin or want to put a different Nuvi on it they will fit.

great thanks..went to Best

great thanks..went to Best Buy here last night to check one out as I saw them online the night before for $24.99..to my shock they went up in price the next day so I passed. This looks like the perfect idea for our minivan to transfer the unit between cars, so once I see it on sale again I will purchase..

Cheers

Best Buy often times isn't the best buy. Check the on-line stores. If you use Fire Fox as your browser, there is an add-on called Invisible Hand. It will go and check for better prices for any item you are looking at on Amazon and some other sites. It's svaed me money.

Bean Bag Too Expensive

I agree with Box Car, Best Buy prices are not competitive. Good place to window shop and physiaclly touch the items.

Actually the price did not go up overnight at Best Buy, The model # they are selling is 010-10908-00.
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Garmin+-+Portable+Auto+Friction+... friction mount&cp=1&lp=2

This has the gold Garmin logo on it.

The one at Amazon and other sites is 010-10908-02, only difference I see is no gold logo. Paying 7.00 more dollars for a logo makes no sense.
http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-Portable-Friction-Mount-Frustra...

It seems like there has been a great increase in demand for these and retailers are sticking to the 26.00 price with little fluctuation.
When I bought mine from Amazon last year for 15.68, the prices fluctuated every few days from 15 + to 18+.
Personally I would wait and not invest 26.00 for this item. DO NOT be tempted to buy a USED one on EBAY, you don’t know what you’re getting and may not work like a new one.

I was able to find the more expensive one (010-10908-00) on Ebay for 19.99 with free shipping, unfortunately not to Canada.
Maybe others on the forum residing in the US may consider.

.

I'd just buy another mount and traffic receiver and have those installed in the other vehicle - I have the power cord from my units tucked under the edging in the case of one vehicle and it is tucked into the headliner with the power lead fished down the pillar in the other.

No messy cables in either car.

I just unclip the 3790 from it's mount in one vehicle and pop it into the other.

I bought the traffic receiver from eBay and the mount from someone on the web - search engines help a lot with this type of price research.

Currently have: SP3, GPSMAP 276c, Nuvi 760T, Nuvi 3790LMT, Zumo 660T

Traffic

Mine has traffic but only works in major cities like chicago....
Nbummer been in a few traffic jams no warnings...
Also last updates on maps seems to have alot errors. It used too be once in awhile would have stuff on wrong side of street or wrong block.. Now seems to happen alot

that was my first thought,

that was my first thought, to not have to touch my cords, etc. More expensive doing it that way though....
