Traffic was useful example

I have a semi-permanently mounted 765 without traffic in my SUV and a 885 with traffic in my convertible. I alternate which I drive to work. There were wrecks Wednesday and Thursday obstructing my path home. Wednesday I was in the SUV, with no traffic, so I got to wade through it. Thursday - last night - I was in the convertible. I do not normally have the nuvi direct me home but I noticed a traffic icon, touched it to see where the issue was, it was on my route so I asked the nuvi to plot a path home for me. I avoided the traffic and got home noticably quicker than I did Wednesday.

I will also admit I do not really know the wreck was still obstructing things when the nuvi alerted me, it might have been gone by then and the traffic just not been updated. But after experiencing it Wednesday, I wasn't in the mood to give it a try Thursday. I took the alternative path which was less than 5 minutes extra even if my normal path was OK.

So sometimes traffic can help. First time in about 3 years use, however, that I can say maybe it helped.

Sometime it does help, but then Navteq only covers the freeways and some major roads. It has been known to direct you from one bottleneck to another where everyone that 'bailed out' of the first mess is tied into knots creating another. When my 885 notifies me of a traffic tie-up I'll tell it to redirect but I also monitor INRIX traffic on my smartphone. INRIX has 10 times the coverage Navteq provides on my unit.

I have Clear Channel

I do not think this changes much of anything because I think they work very similar except for some coverage details but I have Clear Channel in my bimmer. NavTeq has no coverage in this area. I have a NavTeq lifetime with adds receiver, however, that I use when I am traveling. I don't see much difference where both have signals (I've used two nuvis at once a few times) but the alert I got was on Clear Channel.

I am so excited to get my unit and with my luck there has been no traffic on my routes to/from the office as of yet as rush hour in the Toronto area doesn't start until 4pm ish. I am able to look at the screen to see where the traffic is on the major highways in my area (there are about 5 major highways in the GTA) and have been tempted to go find the traffic to see if this stupid thing even works LOL!!

GARMIN nuvi2350LMT...

Traffic Icon

You don't really have to go to the traffic to see it. Just hit the traffic icon on the map screen when it is green and then you should have another selection to see or list all traffic in your area, with estimated wait times - without going there.
