HELP!! Extra POI editor suddenly not working :(

Hey gang! I know, long time no post sad

I have a huge problem. My Extra POI Editor is no longer working. I was using it and then it stopped working. When I go to open the program, I only get the icon in the task bar.

The program doesn't fully open.

I have tried uninstalling it and reinstalling the latest version, but the same thing happens.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do a full uninstall.

Do a full uninstall. Reboot.

Then a reinstall. Reboot, and see if it works.

If not, then check for malware on your computer.

It sounds like perhaps the EPE saved window size/location information has gotten messed up and the application is trying to display its window such that it is off the screen or otherwise invisible. In that case, running EPE from a command line with the "-reset" option may fix it.

As [Gary A]'s post suggests, the precise steps to accomplish that depend on: 1) the flavour of Windows you are running, and 2) exactly where your "Extra_POI_Editor.exe" executable file resides.

On my 64-bit Vista machine, the steps would be to open a command prompt via...

[Windows Start button] > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt

...and then type the following two commands, hitting the [Enter] key after each one:

cd "\Program Files (x86)\TurboCCC\Extra_POI_Editor"

Extra_POI_Editor.exe -reset

Too Funny!

For years my wife has wanted a PC with a DWIM key. But, I've yet to fine one.

anti virus

if you have Norton you might want to check that, mine did the same thing. One day Norton decided it didn't like EPE

have always wanted that instruction in the compilers. We used to have it as a machine code instruction on our old Univac 1218-33. It was the 504207 which caused the program to execute an unconditional stop.

We must be about the same age. I used to work on old RCA mainframes (hardware) until they were bought up by Univac in the early 70's.

how a program operated by pushing "das blinkin lights" in a register and when you would opstep through a program written in machine code?

I'll bet you even know what a microphone test was for on those early computers.

No visible window issue

EPE's window is probably outside the visible screen. smile) EPE remembers the last window position whereever it was.

There are 2 solutions:

1- Close EPE and run 'regedit' in the Start->Run menu and look for this key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\TurboCCC\Extra_POI_Editor\Config

and look for the keys Win_ and delete them all one by one. Close Regedit and start EPE again.

2- The second solution is to run "Extra_POI_Editor -reset" in a Dos window. Type "cmd" without quotes in the Start->Run menu. Change folder to go in the EPE folder and type "Extra_POI_Editor -reset" (without quotes). This will reset the entire EPE keys from the Registry. In this case, you will have to reconfigure EPE with your Preferences.

Solution #1 just resets the windows positions. Solution #2 deletes the entire EPE configuration.

If you experience difficulties, let me know and I will add another command called Extra_POI_Editor -reset_window" and this could reset the window position.

Regards,

Turbo

EDIT: Before you delete the specified Win_ keys in the Registry, please try to write the value down or right click on Config and export the values to a text file. Then post them here. It will tell me where are your windows. The most important values I need is Win_List_Top and Win_List_Left.

An alternative approach would be to have your startup code check to see if the [Shift] key is depressed and ignore the saved window settings if it is. That way the user could reset the window position by simply launching EPE while holding the [Shift] key down instead of messing with registry edits or command-line switches. It's a technique I use quite often.

Good advice

This is all very good advice. Good luck

hold the shift key

I like that solution. I am not sure one would think about typing this specific key, but at least it can be documented and it is easy to do. Thanks for the suggestion.

I was planning to add something else like "Extra_POI_Editor -winreset" to reset the window position, but you still have to type something on a command-line.

I'll probably also look at a different registry library just to see if this is the cause of the problem.

Hold shift key

Done! I will publish this with the next version.

Thanks guys! I forgot to

Thanks guys! I forgot to mention that I am running Win 7 premium 64 bit.

Turbo helped me by having me delete some registry keys.

As always, you guys are the BEST!
