An important and informative POI Alert would be something that would show what county you are in as you travel.
I have often heard severe weather alerts giving warnings of flooding, tornado, etc. approaching certain counties. Great information, but didn't know what county I was in.
Anyone know of a POI that would help? Or, some other feature?
I would not depend on a GPS for such vital information that very well may save your life, Get yourself one of the new weather alert radio systems. I have one built into my new Cobra 29 LX CB. The system will turn itself on and ALERT even if the unit is off or on another channel. The alert will sound and give ALL the vital info if you are in or approaching the county being effected. All of the new systems carry this feature and no GPS that I know of even come close, another option is to download RAIN ALARM PRO to your smart phone which will alert you as well...
Information and location is a MUST in a moment notice...
I use both!... why?
Have you ever seen a 18 wheeler flip?.. Yes I have.
Thanks. That'sgood information. oes that let you know what county you are in or about to enter?
The radio won't tell you the county but remember, the NOAA stations only cover about a 40 mile diameter area so any broadcast will be for your current area.
It won't give you an alert, but you could load a custom map with the county boundaries.
You also could look in the POI files listing and see if there is a "county seat" file for the state(s) in which you are traveling.
