Garmin Nuvi 650 and Linux (Ubuntu)

I will be getting a new computer that I will boot into Ubuntu, which is a Linux based operating system. The computer will be dual boot, so I will still have access to Windows should I need it.

Any advice on managing the Garmin Nuvi 650 using Ubuntu directly? Or should I simply plan on booting into Windows and doing my upgrades the "old" way.

Certainly use Windows for

Certainly use Windows for upgrades and POI loads unless you don't mind making your Nuvi a brick. I have not tried any of the install/update tools with wine, but I'm not risking bricking my Nuvi. If you are brave (or foolish) go ahead and let us know if it works. I would not recommend it and you have been warned.

You can use Linux to change any files on the Nuvi. It's a mass storage device, but certainly update files with caution.
