Looks like a great price

I watch Amazon for GPS prices when I want to update my unit. My 1490T is still a great unit so I don't need the 2460 but if my maps were out of date I would consider the purchase.

Great Price for a Great Nuvi

I have thoroughly enjoyed my 2460LMT since July and highly recommend it! Don't know about the new Nuvi series, but this model seems to me to be the culmination of all my Nuvi requirements. It doesn't have MP3, FM transmitter, or external antenna which I had in previous models, but never used. The screen is large and bright, and I use the voice command daily just to have a conversation with American English Jill. Split screen junction view is a great feature, and the unit is compatible with routes created in MapSource. The powered mount makes it very easy to pop the unit on and off.

Yep

Its price seems to be in free fall. It was $300 at the beginning of August. I keep getting price alerts every few days as a new low hits.

Obviously this model is probably the first one to be discontinued when the 2012s come out this month? I've rest my alert price to $150. [Edit: I see some are reporting the 2012s started arriving yesterday]

I've been watching the 3790LMT also, but that hasn't moved down much in price yet.

Thinga I like about the 2460LMT.
Voice command, large screen,it's customizable, the power mount makes it easy to mount/dismount. I love the lane assist and junction view. You can add multiple via points on the fly. I like the speed limit display. I find the advanced detour function useful, and it has excellent bluetooth quality.
In summary, I really love my Garmin nuvi 2460LMT>

Looks like it was just You and me from the Factory who took advantage of this deal, they may repeat it later in the year but I doubt that it will be less than what we got it for.

Best Buy

Best Buy has it listed on their site for $199. That said, it's on back order but it's worth waiting for.

Arrived today! Satellite display on 2460?

I ordered mine from Amazon just after reading the note here.

And it arrived today! That was with standard shipping!

Now if I can just figure out how to display satellite status (pressing the signal strength in the upper left corner of my 680 brought up that display -- not so on the 2460).

Th larger screen looks good!

why not buy the 2012 lineup

why not buy the 2012 lineup model 2495LMT for $249.99? with 2.0 guidance and about 7GB internal memory..

Satellite Status

Same procedure on the 2460. Hold the touch for a couple of seconds.

gpsomnia wrote:

Less expensive
Proven track record (read the reviews for the 2460)
Larger Screen 5" Diagonal vs 4.3"
Battery Life 3hr vs 2½
My Trends routing in the 2460
ecoRoute included in the 2460
Why settle for 7GB when the 2460 has 8GB

2.0 guidance too early to tell not enough people have it or have written real life reviews

Is here!

Got my 2460 delivered yesterday afternoon, an all nighter downloading new map and software (slower than molasses)

So far I like what this baby can deliver; the large screen is what my old eyes needed it and the voice recognition is better that I expected, the traffic adds IMO are not that intrusive.

Still trying to figure out some of the functions that are new to me, for the most part not very different to operate than my 260.

Not having to fumble in my pockets for the cell phone while driving is a blessing.

Internal Memory Question

I am considering buying a 2460LMT when they go on sale again. It is my understanding they come with 8GB internal Rom Memory (actually a bit less)

Can someone who has recently purchased one advise how much free memory they have from a stock unit with only the pre-loaded factory software installed.

Thanks for any replies.

My has the software and map update plus 10,000 POIs I loaded and this is what it shows.

Size 7.31gb
used 4.65gb
free 2.65gb

After almost a week of ownership I highly recommend this unit, it has lived up to my expectations.

I am surprised to see the 7.31. figure, that is far less than expected for those saying it has 8GB memory. I wasn't expecting 8GB, but surely much more than 7.31.

The used space is quite high too, I'm assuming the 2012.20 map with the large JCV file (770 MB)and the gmap3d.img should use about 2.4GB. That's a huge difference from the 4.65GB used.

Bright side is the 2.65GB remaining still enough to add a full Europe map to the device.

Like mine, don't like the ads

I like the 2460 -- seems like it has a faster update rate over the old 680. Display is crisper as well as larger.

Now if I could get rid of those ads (without disabling traffic)...

don't mind the ads

k6rtm wrote:

I really don't find the ads terrible annoying since I have only seen a few, it maybe what they have to offer in the area you drive.

I also noticed in my unit that if I'm navigating an active route the ads don't show up even if stopped at a light, the only time I see them is if the unit is on and the map is just scrolling by as I drive with no active route, but they are comparatively small in regards to the screen size.

As annoying as it may be it is what it is after all look at over the airwaves TV and radio, those services are supported by ads, what really irks me is cable TV, at the beginning it was almost ads free and now not only has the price gone up it has as many ads as airwaves TV

2460LMT $189.99 @ Costco

In store only - $229.99 less $40. Just got one yesterday.

Like the 2460--

One of the other things I like about this one, as compared to my old 660/680 (still working in the kid's car), is never seeing the "Acquiring satellites" message -- the GPS powers up when I start the engine, and by the time I've checked things and am ready to drive off, it's ready to go! Fast startup! With the 660/680, some mornings it took a few minutes for it to figure out where it was!

Nuvi 2460LMT, Put favorites in alphabetical order?

Just got a Nuvi 2460LMT, 1st Nuvi, always used handhelds. I've entered several favorites, maybe 100 all total, in 4 different categories. The list is compiled in the order that I entered them, all random.

I would like to put them in alphabetical order in the 4 categories I have them saved in and also the list for "All Favorites".

I've downloaded the online manual and didn't see anything pertaining to sorting the favorites alphabetically. Anyone knonw how or if this can be done.
Thank You.

I believe they go by distance and not Alphabetical Order.Don't think that can be done.

@eaparks

orlandorealtor is correct, the Favorites are displayed in the order of distance to your current location, as you move the Favorites will change to show the closest one reagrdless how they were entered in the unit.

Favorites Sorting & Transparent background on Custom POI symbol

Thank you orlandorealtor and flaco.

I have done quite a bit with creating Custom POI symbols on my handhelds, more than 100 for various maps. The same Custom POI symbols where the magenta background appears correctly (transparent) om my handhelds and on the Nuvi 500 and 550, is appearing black on my Nuvi 2460LMT.

Has anyone else tried using Custom POI symbols with a transparent background on the Nuvi 2460 models?

I'm trying to determine if it is a unique problem to this series of Nuvi, or if the parameters have to be different for this series, or if the background can't be hidden on this series.

.

I would presume the 2460 are no different for customs icons then the older, or newer models. Both of my units handle the transparency normally.

It may be the way they were created, I suspect. Email me if you want the RLC and Speed Trap .bmp's to test.

$199.95 + $5.99 (S&H) @ GPS City.com:

All in one.

I have an older Gps ,is still working and it does a good job too.The FM transmitter when I purchase the unit was only good for 90 days, one question and I would like to know the answer. I have a spare FM tranmitter cable GTM_20 and I replace cause the end that go connect to the GPS was getting bad. Now here is my question the FM paid update does it go with the GPS or with the cable,in other word if I pay to active the FM traffic Receiver and my cable need to be replace do I loose the FM traffic? and even if I replace the cable the traffic would be still active ? The traffic cost about $69.00 the GTM 20 with the life time traffic cost about $100.00, it is worth it. or just I should purchase a new GPS ? Does anyone know of a new model that have bluetooth and mp3 too? I won"t mind If does not have MP3 player ,but be able to use my phone with the GPS I could not live with out. Some new model they do not come with bluetooth, and some model they show on the buttom right of the GPS what the speed limit is ? If you thing about it.what is the need for that when the speed limit is posted on the road black and white !

to funny

I just laugh when I see everyone getting excited about a 200$ gps.

I just saw a magellan 3120 Lm for only 29$ used. same model refurbished for only 63$ and a nuvi 2450lm for only 108 and ebay. beach camera.
