Microsoft Security Essentials Detects Chrome as Malware

Not sure if anyone is affected. This just happened this morning.

Alert: Google Chrome has been incorrectly marked as malware by Microsoft security software. Please update your Microsoft security software to version 1.113.672.0 which resolves this issue.

I think the problem comes from Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) which is a free download from Microsoft. If that is not active on your XP machine, you would not be impacted.

Not me

By doing something like this, it might convince some uninformed Chrome users to use IE instead. twisted

Nah.. Microsoft would never do anything illegal, right? wink

I'm not really lost.... just temporarily misplaced!

chrome

I normally use firefox, but use chrome a lot too. Microsoft Security Essentials never flagged it as malware. Maybe its the addons some people have installed in Chrome?

I have both MSSE and chrome

I have both MSSE and chrome installed, no problems on win 7 x64.

I use chrome daily for playing Pandora music, while Firefox for browsing.

are you sure it's not infected?
double check with some online scanner, like kaspersky, nod32 or any other.

Could be either?

Looks like it could be either a real virus (malware) or a non problem depending on what version of MSE signature file you have AND/OR your version of Chrome:

The OP's original link eventually leads you to this one.

It's about the Line- If a line can be drawn between the powers granted and the rights retained, it would seem to be the same thing, whether the latter be secured by declaring that they shall not be abridged, or that the former shall not be extended.

LOL!!!

LOL!!! smile

right

yeah, I was not updating MSSE for a few days around the problem reports started coming.
I was traveling. it seems that there was a bad virus signatures update from MS which actually could cause that false positive detection on chrome smile

somehow I've never gotten it neither on home desktop nor on my xp netbook while travelling.

AV

When it come to antivirus software, I always go with the best, which most tech feel it is Eset for antivirus and Malware Bytes for malware. With those two apps, you have the best in detecting any problems with your pc. This is from personal experience and testing several other av software..
