Lifetime maps?

This may come off as sort of a silly question, but have you found the lifetime map updates to really be worth having? The units are getting so cheap, it's almost worth looking at a new GPS.

Are lifetime updates worth it?

It depends. I bought my Nuvi 660 shortly after they came on the market. By todays standard, it was VERY EXPENSIVE. I intend to use it until it quits. To date, I've used my "Lifetime" subscription to update my unit nine (9) times. To me, the cost (~$90 +S&H) has definetely been worth it.

well, let's look

Here's just a couple examples'

Garmin nüvi 1490LMT 5-Inch Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator with Lifetime Map & Traffic Updates by Garmin
Buy new: $199.09

Garmin nüvi 1490/1490T 5-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator with Traffic (Factory Refurbished) by Garmin
Buy new: $139.99
Cost difference $60

Garmin nüvi 1300 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator by Garmin
Buy new: $99.99

Garmin nüvi 1300LM 4.3-Inch Portable GPS Navigator with Lifetime Map Updates by Garmin
Buy new: $122.43
Cost difference $22.44

Depending on the unit the cost difference can be slight to around $60.00. You can also get Lifetime Maps on sale for between $45 - 75$. Either way, you don't end up with two units and one with somewhat current data and the other severely outdated.

Granted, you may not see changes implemented often or quickly in your area, but that doesn't mean changes aren't being made.

Illiterate? Write for free help.

And in any event, the

And in any event, the question is moot for the 2012 lineup. All units in that lineup have lifetime map updates.

My answer would Be exactly

My answer would Be exactly as Miki's

I'm happy with the 660, have modified it with different phrases, POI's and Start Up Picture
I've a replacement higher current battery when the time comes.....
I, too, will run the 660 into the ground.....

I paid ~$60 for the Lifetime traffic and have done ~ 6-8 updates... so my cost per update is less than $10 per update...

Have had lifetime Traffic for 3+ years... I think I Paid ~$45 for that.... that price too is getting lower and lower per year the longer I keep it...

The 660 works better than the 2011 Nav System in my Ford Escape....

So..........

I just bought the last and final lifetime update for my 350 for 45.00. I have a 350,360,370,255w.765t and a 775t. I know, I know, that seems like a helluva lot of Nuvi's, and it is. My wife calls me the A.D.D. poster boy. All of them are up-to-date and charged. When I travel, I use the 765t for the rental car, and I carry the 360 around town. I think the 765t is a bit large to tote around draped on your belt. I love the 360 if for that reason alone. They are small and light, and it does a great job getting me where I would like to go. For me, the lifetime maps were/are the way to go. I sure don't need another Nuvi!

It sounds like what I need

It sounds like what I need to do is wait for the map updates to go on sale! I'm happy with my 255W so I also want to run it into the ground.
