3790 LMT need some help

First of all let me say it’s nice to be home for a few minutes (I mean here on the site again).
I got a 3790 LMT for my birthday today.... I am trying to get it set up before I go back on the road tomorrow (ever see the TV show Quantum Leap, well that’s what my life is like now, I never know where the next leap will take me).
I bought an 8 gig SD card and added that to the unit (Like I have in my 1390T. The first thing I did when I turned it on, was connect it to my PC and do a Full backup on to my PC (yes I did the hidden system Files).
I spent the next 3 hrs getting it patched up to today and then getting the 3D maps updated.
Now my Question: HOW do I get POI loaded onto the SD card like I used to do with the 1390T?????
I tried POI loader, used advanced set it to the E:\POI folder on the SD card and stuff goes to the E:\POI but the unit does not show these in the extras....
I am confused, I did this no prob at all on the 1390 for the past 2 years, why they don't see it on the 3790LMT?????
Any help would be appreciated.
OK, I'll answer this myself.....
The NEW SD card kept asking if I wanted to scan it everytime I connected it to my computer running windows 7. I kept saying no. Nothing was working, files got copied POI file got created but it never worked.
So this time, I connected, it said something about the E:\ may has issue do you want to scan it. This time I said ok, what the heck, scan and fix and errors.
It fininshed took (8 minutes to scan) and this time I loaded POI and low and behold, the darn thing is working now just like my 1390T....
SO When you plug the new SD card into the unit do a Scan and fix on the first pass before you add data to it.

POI's
Your new GPS should have plenty of room for the POI's without using the SD card. Have you tried loading them to the device itself?
Garmin Nuvi 2450
I saw that
I see the new one has an 8 gig of storage 4 gig free out of the box but I like to keep my custom stuff seperated so if I make a big mistake I don't damage the predefined POIs.
I also Trim out all the fluff when I get a new unit (all the other languages I don't need, keyboards, voices, and stuff like that and free up more space. (Its good to have back up)

took your advice
You know what, I took your advice and installed them on the device instead of on the SD card, and it works even better (faster to).
Thank you....

Just Got the 3790 Myself
We went on our annual drive south and I bought a 3790LMT as well. I encountered the same problem you did with the scan AND was unable to load any POI files. So we used the trusty nuvi 660 for this trip.
I have been scouring the manual and could not find information about uploading POIs. Thanks for the help - I love the Factory

I just bought a refurbished 1390T to replace my 660. The 660 kept dropping the Bluetooth connection. I loaded the RLC POI (along with the associated .bmp and .mp3) but the unit only beeps when approaching, it does not speak the warning. The file is loaded directly on the 1390T. What am I doing wrong or is this the normal behavior?

Change the MP3 to wav
You have to rename the *.mp3 file to *.wav file and ** VERY IMPORTANT ** you need to get the SOX.exe file (stands for Sound Exchange, its zipped and located on this site), unzip it and make sure you put the SOX.exe into the folder where you installed the Garmin POI loader files (Just copy and paste it in the folder).
All files must be named the Same except for there extension (this is also very important):
Redlight-Cameras.csv
Redlight-Cameras.wav
Redlight-Cameras.BMP
Then upload the POI and it should work mine has been working for years.

More than a filename change
You have to rename the *.mp3 file to *.wav file and...
Yes, wav files are needed for nuvi models (the 1390T, for example) that don't play mp3 files, but it's more than a name change. The mp3 file will need to be converted to a wav to work--or simply use already created wav audio files instead of mp3 files.

Try Audacity
You have to rename the *.mp3 file to *.wav file
As pointed out, a .mp3 file cannot be simply renamed to a .wav file (and work), it must be converted. I use Audacity for this task.

OK sorry about that
I converted mine 2 or 3 years ago and have never changed it so I forgot how I got it.

Did the .mp3 to .wav conversion. I'll load them later today.
Thanks.
