Keeping the Windmill Alive - Your last trip? - September 2011

The original discussion topic started by CherylMASS back in 2007 has been very popular; with over 3500 replies it's grown to be the longest thread at POI Factory.

In order to make things easier to navigate (and help avoid future technical surprises), I'm going to start a new topic each month like we do for the joke thread.

Here is CherylMASS' original post, continued here...

If anyone is in danger of losing their windmill, maybe you can share with us the last place your GPS took you and if you encountered any problems, or if you use it to seek out special places to go. (Like Thai Food, ice cream shoppes, etc.) Anything to keep your windmill alive smile.

Thank you CherylMASS for starting the original "Keeping the Windmill Alive" thread at POI Factory.

Now let's continue posting here...

Port Aransas TX

Just a short 7 hour trip to the Gulf coast to take advantage of the warm water, hot weather, fresh shrimp, and great restaurant that are avalable in Port Aransas Texas. The beaches are empty and there is no waiting in restaurants since "Summer ends on Labor Day". There were lots of sea turtles, migrating fish, sea birds, and even humming birds.

I had fun teasing Jill. I went around a new roundabout twice while navigating. She retaliated on me a little later when I asked for a detour around road construction.

I changed the phrase "enter roundabout" "enter roundabout, watch for idiots" Is so much fun with some one else in the car when the GPS pipes up and says "enter roundabout, watch for idiots, take the second exit."

Where Is We Is

My wife and I have been roadtripping in our 1989 VW Westfalia since 1994, 220,000 miles and counting.

Our homebase is in Atlanta and I'm a Boston native, therefore every year around this time you'll find us somewhere in New England.

Currently we're in Hartland VT, visiting friends. Our cat's enjoying 5 acres of freedom and has been hunting- successfully. He's a stray who adopted us the first time we camped out this year and a pretty good traveler.

Anyone wondering whether to venture into VT after the storm shouldn't worry- these public works guys have their act together and delays on U.S.4 between the New York border and here, a little north of Rutland, are minor.

Next place on our radar is the Owl's Head Transportation Museum on the coast of Maine.

Latest Trip

Toronto, Canada.

My Jill says, "You missed the turn." And in a sarcastic tone of voice.

Take the back road to Eureka

I finally gave to try on taking the backroads and byways to Eureka, CA. I normally would not do this without GPS.

Obviously, it took much longer time than the main highway. However, The extra time was totally worth it because I enjoyed the scenery so much.

Next trip is tomorrow!

Bringing the GPS down to Florida for a week! Fun, fishing and sun!

I finally got that trip in. Fresh cheese curds, just out of the vat, still warm & moist and that squeak when you chew 'em are something to experience if you've never had 'em like that. grin
