2640LMT with EcoRoute HD bluetooth pairing question

I have a new 2640LMT and I bought the ecoroute HD to monitor real time mileage in my motor home. I have found that the RT mileage display in my Prius helps to keep me aware of my 'foot heaviness', and increases my economy.

The problem I am having is that the 2460 is having '50 first dates' problems. Every time I start the motor home, the 2460 will proudly proclaim that a ecoroute HD has been discovered, would I like to connect to it?

The method of bluetooth connection requires that the engine is running in park for pairing purposes. This takes about 3-5 minutes to finish and connect. I really like the real time mileage display, but if I have to do this every time I start the garmin, the mileage benefits seem to go away, and it's annoying. I don't like to spend a lot of time idling at $3.70/gal.

So: is there a power up sequence that I should know about? The manual (such that it is) states that 'after the initial connection, the ecoRoute HD device will automatically connect to the GPS device when they are turned on and are within 33 feet of each other'.

ultra-gauge

If you can't get it to work without so much hassle maybe look into the ultra-gauge, it is hardwire.

Sounds

Sounds like you have a problem with the EcoRoute HD adapter. Using it with my 3790 and 1695, I've only had to "connect" the device once. After the initial setup it has always automatically connected with either Nuvi.

Taking 3-5 minutes to connect also sounds like you have a problem with the adapter. Again with my units, it took maybe a minute and half with the 3790 and less time than that for the 1695.

no sounds

t923347 The OP indicated it works with his Prius so that rules out the adapter, what I suspect and probably the OP does as well is that the adapter is loosing power and is not energized when the motorhome is off and it takes a while after turning the engine on for the Bluetooth to regain communication at the adapter side.

Actually the real time

Actually the real time mileage display in the Prius is built in, I haven't actually plugged the HD into the Prius.
I'm wondering about the order of the power application, though. If I delay turning on the 2640, I wonder if it would connect. If the HD has to wait for the Motor Home computer to be ready before it connects, then it's possible, I suppose, that the HD wouldn't be recognized on power up of the 2640 until it came online. Don't know why it always thinks it's a different HD though.

oops

In that case I retract my write up and t923347 is probably correct on his assessment.

I checked my 3790 and 1695 just now. I placed the unit in the mount and attached the traffic cable/power adapter. I then turned on my vehicle which automatically boots the Nuvi and powers the HD unit. For both GPS units, it was approximately 2 seconds after I got to the TOOLS screen for the HD icon to appear on the ecoRoute leaf. That would be about 4 to 5 seconds after I pressed AGREE on the Legal stuff screen.

I would conclude from that that the ecoRoute HD adapter, if working properly, should be recognizes by the Nuvi's bluetooth facility almost immediately after the vehicle is turned on and the GPS is booted.

One small can of egg

One small can of egg remover, please.
After re-reading the installation manual, I discovered 1 small but apparently important step to the process.

Step 8: Turn the vehicle off and then back on to save the setup information.

Don't know why my mind just skipped over that information. Didn't even see it. Once I pair my phone to a car, I don't have to turn the car off and on again to remember the pairing. Habit just got in the way.

Another case of RTFM.

Thanks for all the comments, though.

Switching

How do you switch between the HD and phone? Is it easy to toggle back and forth?
