Calculating 99% and Stuck

My Nuvi 1470 has been very flakey since installing the 2012.1 maps. Bizarre routing mostly and now it is getting stuck at 99% when calculating certain routes. Anyone else have this issue?

Oops, 1490 not 1470.

reset it

Did you try to do hard reset GPS? Just remember about doing backup of favorites because they will disappear.

If this doesn't help try to reinstall map on Nuvi. Sometimes installation can go not exactly how it should and this can cause various set of problems.

That sucks. Does it do it

That sucks. Does it do it on all routes or just certain routings?

1490 locking up

Have you updated to the latest version of software on the GPS? My options would be to update to the latest version of software and reinstall the map.

Has the GPS reboot or shutdown while navigating an active route?

Try a hard reset or try

Try a hard reset or try re-installing the maps.

GPS has latest updates

Didn't have route calculation problems until yesterday. Installed 2012 maps a few months ago. Will try a reset and see what that does.

Is Map The Culprit?

Was the route error the same route you had previously traveled with older maps?

Reason I ask is I had made many trips from NY to Pennsylvania and everything was fine with 2011 maps.
Doing that same trip with 2012 maps I've encountered some errors on that same exact route on my Nuvi 765T.
No settings or firmware has been changed, only the maps. It's not Traffic causing it since I have traffic unchecked in avoidances.

I'm just wondering if these new maps have errors that were not present before. In that case, it's not Garmins fault but rather Navteq (Nokia), the map supplier.

same issue

I had that problem recently when I was in victoria, canada. I think mine was do to the need to use a ferry to cross water. It is the only location I have had that problem

I think you're on to something with this.

Just for fun, I have created a few routes in the past and it would seem to hang when I set it to "Avoid Tolls" while attempting to leave NJ.... It is almost impossible as just about every route has a toll. Well worth paying in my opinion grin

ditto but opposite

My 2350LMT froze up approaching the GW bridge westbound. Maybe it got wind of the upcoming is it $15 toll when you don't use EZPass?

There was a time when I thought $9 was too much for a bridge toll, now we feel relieved to be paying only $10.

Gotta love the tolls

It must have found out about the toll, need to avoid that one if possible!

Over the past few years I've been traveling to NYC on almost a weekly basis for work (not as much this year) and would pass through the Holland Tunnel. Nice to have EZpass when you're being reimbursed, I paid anywhere from $75 on up in a week! I'm sure others out there have ended up paying a lot more though. I had to take an $8 bridge 3 times within an hour, I forget which one it is now but it was near the Bronx.

Try A Hard Reset....Or Not

It seems like a lot of people here suggest a hard reset whenever a problem arises. In my limited experience of trying that, it never works. Besides, if you did a Format C: on your PC every time a little problem cropped up, where would you be? I suggest doing a GPS receiver hard reset only as a last resort.

maybe if we said

Do a cold boot instead of bringing it back from hibernation it would be easier to understand. There is a lot of difference in restoring from a format as you state and doing a reset.

Returning the 1490

Hard reset didn't fix the problem. Reinstalling v5.40 didn't fix the problem. Route works fine on 1450 with 2010 maps.

Too many routing issues with 2012 maps. Garmin told me to send it in for repair/exchange, but I will just return it to Costco for a new one. Hopefully, it will have 2011, not 2012 maps.

Becoming very dissatisfied with Garmin.

Navteq maps suck

I have a pretty low opinion of Navteq maps. Something happened several years ago with their accuracy. I have no idea what. I think it was in 2006 when I started seeing so any errors. The same routes were correct before that time. It would be interesting to know what happened. I considered going to another brand of GPS (not Garmin) that use Tele-Atlas maps but I didn't. Tele-Atlas maps might have as many errors in them too. I don't know about that. Some of the errors on Navteq maps, I checked on Tele-Atlas and they were correct. Seems like with all the newer technology, maps should be much more accurate and not LESS. In my opinion, what they are producing is just not good enough. I stopped buying Microsoft Streets and Trips each year because they use Navteq maps too. I have not been on a trip with my 765T since I upgraded the maps on it to the 2012 version. Mine may lock up too like the original poster here. That sure will be nice to be on a trip and it start locking up. NOT!

Same problem here

I think that its a 1490 issue. For me, it occurred only in certain areas, so I thought that perhaps there was something wrong with the map. But, the same map version in my trusty old 76csx routed where the 1490 would not.

However, there could be some issues with the map file that was downloaded to the 1490. The 76csx maps were installed using Mapsource.

Very Disappointed

Well, I returned my 1490 and got a 1390.
Sadly, the 1390 is having the exact same problems. Stupid routing and it locks up at 99% in the Onancock VA area. It looks like it is definitely a 2012.1 map problem. I should have kept the 1490 with the larger screen. sad

change again

I would go back to the 1490 while you still can

Too late.

Already returned it. Costco doesn't sell it anymore.
