nuvi units and route input from BaseCamp or Mapsource

I was about to purchase a 3790 until I read that it would not accept routes from the mapping programs.
An inquiry to Garmin CS about units that would accept routes was responded to with the statement that the 3700 series were the only products that lacked this feature.
Since Garmin CS agents are not always that well informed or knowledgeable about the incredible number of models that Garmin markets, I'd like to hear about experience from real users.
At his time, I'd probably be interrested in the new 3400 series once it has time to mature in the marketplace and the price becomes more reasonable.
