POI Alert (default POI built internally?)

I need some advise on POI. I don't have any custom built POI on my 1490T because when I hit where to > extras> there is none. However when I am in the city symbols like POI kept popping up on the map. Its like its alerting me. Are there default POI built internally? If so how can I disable them or get rid of them so I get no unwanted alerts?
Thank you.

Change the viewing distance

Increase the viewing distance on your GPS from, say 200 feet to 300 or 500 ft and - poof, all the icons will disappear !

go to the map screen

On both the units you own (which I also own) you should see a + and - sign . Just press the - sign to increase scale of map

I did that on the 1490t

I did that on the 1490t which is giving me the problem but no luck. Never had that problem with the 260W.
Thanks for your reply. I even think i zoom out too much but the symbols appear when i am in built up cities. Thanks

Map scale

Actually the - sign decreases the map scale, which in effect zooms out.

Because of the way map scale is misunderstood by so many, it usually is best to stick with zoom in or zoom out. That way the reader and writer will more likely understand each other and there would not be the contradiction of terms as above.
